Google "Fracking Butler County, Pennsylvania".

There's more to come when a major toxic spill from a fracking pond occurs on one of the major rivers.

They've also been exempted from carbon capture so the methane, which is 12x worse than CO2, is being released into the atmosphere.

I was in PA a few months ago backpacking in heart of all the fracking. A gentleman who has lived in this town for 20+ years, has 200+ acres of land and just sold the gas rights to shell was telling me about this.

He said its all bullshit and any honest person will tell you that gas has always seeped into the ground water. The gentlemans father used to light the water on fire as gag to wow the grandkids.

Methane is the largest component of natural gas. Since it evaporates out of drinking water, it is not considered toxic, but in the air it can lead to explosions. When methane is found in water supplies, it can also signal that deeply drilled gas wells are linked with drinking water systems.

In many cases the methane seepage comes from thousands of old abandoned gas wells that riddle Pennsylvania's geology, state inspectors say. But other cases, including several this year and the 2004 disaster that left three people dead, were linked to problems with newly drilled, active natural gas wells.

The issue came to the forefront in January when methane was found in the water at 16 homes in the small town of Dimock [2], in northeastern Pennsylvania. State officials cited Cabot Oil & Gas for several violations they say allowed the gas to seep out of the well structures and into water supplies there. The Department of Environmental Protection asked the company to encase its lower well pipes completely in concrete — a process known in the industry as "cementing" — and assured the public that the contamination in Dimock was rare.

But according to a department spokeswoman, there have been at least 52 separate cases of what the state calls "methane migration" in the past five years.

People love scare tactics and there is a lot of money to be made by the environmental-wackos. Some people will buy into parlor tricks and use it for political purposes.

A lot of the pollution from existing fracking wells hasn't occurred yet. The drillers modelled the wells assuming the wastewater would take 100 years to migrate to the water table. The stuff you're seeing now is the result of drillers cutting corners. There's more contamination to come if the models fail as a result of misrepresenting the risks.

I suppose that you are going to tell me that the fracking models are all wrong but he global warming models are flawless?

That is already known. There was methane seeping into the water supply from old gas wells. Now there is additional contamination from the fracking wells.

OP that story was de-bunked a year ago.As a geologist, I can tell you that the likelihood that your water is being contaminated by a properly done frac is basically nil. Unlike the propaganda that this video is spreading, the fractures that are introduced to the rock are relatively small...

If it's a shallow frac, then there is a greater probability, but most of these cases will (or have already) been shown to be the result of bad casing downhole allowing methane leaks into the aquifer.

More hysteria. No sound scientific basis

I don't know. Did you see all the oil that was gushing out of that small hole after the BP disaster?

We need to get down there and get all of that dangerous stuff out of there before an earthquake lets it all loose. It can be brought to the surface and burned slowly over a long period of time, so it doesn't affect the atmosphere.

You also have to drill many more holes in these fields because the yields from each rig is low. I heard it was about 300x more than conventional oil fields. Odds are that some of these wells aren't properly sealed.

Properly done? I'm sure corporations, along with the Republican party, have HIGH standards to "basically" make sure this never happens.

Propaganda items, like the drinking water you and your kids drink, filled with inflammable chemicals. It's probably just some parlor trick!

Yup, no chance of human error there! Most of those bad casing mistakes can be cool parlor tricks! ppl love fire!

It's free natural gas, what are these yokels worried about! They're lucky Obama doesn't charge them for mooching off free fossil fuel!

Yea lets blame them for things that could be done before they got there.

Weasel without scare tactics the modern dem party would have no platform to run on. But idiots like you buy into it. Im sure you believe every time Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton say something is racist too
