So....Penn State....

So what is next. Settle for a massive sum (approx 100-250Million). Death Penalty for all sports? Dig up Joe Pa and burn his corpse? What is an appropriate level of punishment?

The Second Mile Took No Action After Being Informed Of Sandusky’s 2001 Shower Incident. Prepare to paw 2nd Mile....what a shame

There is no precedent for how the NCAA would/should/will punosh something like this. I haven't had time to read the report myself yet but from the headlines I've skimmed it appears that there was complicity in the cover up from the top down. Penn State's nightmare is FAR from over after this report.

Dying when he did now seems to have been the one good decision Jor Pa made regarding the Sandusky atrocities.

In a side note; I wonder what Lavar Arrington will have to say now. In the past he has been a staunch defender of his Alma Mater.

I thought he took down all his Penn State stuff, due to the shame.

I don't think that's likely. The crimes and coverup were a human tragedy, but the NCAA is more interested in policing wrongdoing that affects fair play, so I don't think they'll do anything particularly harsh. Maybe a one-year suspension from bowl games this season, but that's the worst case scenario -- I don't think any other sports will be affected.

Any alum that continue to give to that school must be pro-pedo, this went all the way to the president. If NCAA can't penalize them then hopefully the donors will.

@jhey: I would expect there to be considerable debate as to whether or not the whole Sandusky affair even falls under NCAA jurisdiction. Sandusky’s actions definitely did not provide PSU with an unfair, on the field competitive advantage, which, generally speaking is where the NCAA steps in and lays down the hammer. From what I understand the NCAA can step in and levy sanctions against a university for “lack of institutional control”, though they rarely do so.

Given the level, extent and child suffering involved in the cover up who knows how/if the NCAA will punish PSU. I don’t think anybody can argue however that this is quite possibly the most flagrant case of “lack of institutional control” in the history of NCAA sports.

NCAA has informed PENN STATE...that they are coming after them:

I guess they have to do something, but it seems like the NCAA is piling on.

As for Penn State hiring Freeh to do this investigation, another fucked up decision by the Board. Hiring Freeh was like commissioning Penn State's own execution. They couldn't have brought in someone like Arlen Specter to do this? Someone who would have done a fair job without evicerating the school?

This kind of thing deserves to be crushed. Its not like anyone was sleeping with someone's wife, paying off professors for grades, ineligibly crap. There was a (probably not coordinated) systemic cover up of some one fucking little boys.

They apparently knew one of their own was FUCKING KIDS. And they tried to keep it quiet. And they did for over a decade.

The only appropriate response when you learn someone is fucking kids is to start cracking skulls. Instead of beating the shit out of a pedo, they swept it under the rug.

Yes, they and PSU need to be burned, badly, on this one.

In a NCAA team's sports facility, children were raped and the school covered it up. I think there are probably a number of NCAA policies broken here. I have no idea exactly what they are, but I'm sure there is something.

I guess Joe Pa is now resting in hell. I hope so. He hid it. He covered it up. So did many others. My sons will no longer play sports unless I am in the locker room with them.

Trust no one!

The NCAA should pile on. This isnt some retarded football player having someone take finals for him. It was child molesting being covered up for the sake of the football team. What planet do people live on where raping little boys takes second place to football.

These guys have some nerve. I knew he was raping little boys so I told Coach Joe. Ok so you see a really bad traffic accident do you run and tell Coach Joe about that too?

^^^The above post links an NCAA letter dated 11/17/2011, roughly 8 months ago and well before final report came out today.

Here is a brief NCAA Statement by Bob Williams, vice president of communications issued today in response to the report. Emphasis mine.

“Like everyone else, we are reviewing the final report for the first time today. As President Emmert wrote in his November 17th letter to Penn State President Rodney Erickson and reiterated this week, the university has four key questions, concerning compliance with institutional control and ethics policies, to which it now needs to respond. Penn State’s response to the letter will inform our next steps, including whether or not to take further action. We expect Penn State’s continued cooperation in our examination of these issues.”

So yeah, it seems like Penn State is fucked (no pun intended).

Those responsible, with the exception of Joe Pa for obvious reasons, will most likely spend real time in prison. Penn State will most likely lose a large portion of its endowment to settle impending suits. The NCAA coming in now to impose a questionable "death penalty" that might not stand up to legal challenge and which would hurt people in no way associated with the scandal would, indeed, be "piling on."

"Death Penalty" in college football always effects the program, never the people who were involved with whatever caused the problem. Its been used, what, 2 or 3 times? SMU is the only time I can think of. Maybe Miami coming soon.

Does PSU deserve it? Certainly none of the players on next years team had any kind of involvement. None of the kids on the 2016 team did either. I think the death penalty is an institutional level penalty. And I'd say PSU deserves it. Clearly.

How can people sleep at night knowing they hid the truth for years and it hurt innocent little boys. May they all rot in prison.

Penn State does not deserve a football program.

No they don't but NCAA would most likely let those transfer out at no penalty.

This. I don't want to minimize what happened in any way, but seriously, what can the NCAA do to Penn State that the federal government can't?

Fed= Individuals in Jail.
NCAA= Shut down the football program and other sanctions. Feds can't do that.

"CBS News has learned that the NCAA will announce what a high-ranking association source called 'unprecedented' penalties against both the Penn State University football team and the school."

"Unprecedented?" Okay, the death penalty is precedented. Is the NCAA kicking Penn State out of the NCAA?
