Fairfax Underground Summit

On Friday, May 2nd, six distinguished members of the Fairfax Underground Forum met for the first Fairfax Underground Summit. The Summit commenced at 7:00 PM at O'Malley's in Tysons Corner. In attendance were Gravis, Lurker, Margie, Meeper, REStonPeace and myself.
Conversation was lively and varied; even sleep deprived REStonPeace remained engaged. As our waitress made trip after trip to deliver food and drink, we discussed everything from the O RLY? Owl to Dirk the Wiccan. And while the forum was a common topic, it did not constrain our discussion. As the night drew to a close, the extremely generous Gravis picked up the check. Lurker, Margie and Meeper stayed behind for another round of drinks, but I can confirm that the rest of their evening was relaxed; they did not appear on the police scanner.
Since the gathering was somewhat spontaneous, we regret that we did not have time to invite many respected members of the Fairfax Underground community. To ensure that this does not happen again, I have been appointed the official social director of Fairfax Underground. I will be accepting suggestions for the next gathering, although the current forerunner is under the plasma at Clydes.

2 years ago I would have said that this kind of thing would not be possible. But the last-minute arrangements totally worked, and I am happy to have been there. It was a fun time. After all these years of talking about it and my stupid thread from last year, Genevieve finally made it work!

It was great to meet everyone...I admit, I did have second thoughts about meeting up with a group I met on the internet (especially this group) But, I'm glad I did. This was a great group of people and I think everyone had a good time. I look forward to the next "Summit".......Special Thank-you to Gravis!!!!!

On Thursday nite I got a message that people were meeting up. I said "yes"; it was going to be in my neighborhood anyway.
Then on Friday after work, someone sent me the cell # and I texted it to see what was up; turns out they were already there anyway.
So I showed up.
It was a pretty slick plan, all credit goes to Genevieve.

Well, rest assured I think the previous ruse was pretty stupid, so i have no reason to lie to you. This meeting happened and may happen again.
O'Malley's is actually a good place to meet, it had a fair number of happy hours folks but was not pack, they had music on but it wasn't too loud, and our waitress was pretty laid back. The big problem? There is no sign on the building for it so you have to go inside and ask where it is (inside the crown royal hotel or whatever it's call)

I can confirm that this meeting did happened. It was a last minute meet.
It was nice to meet everyone. O'Malleys was a great spot. Maybe next time we should pick a place with a sign on the front and not hidden in some alley. LOL

FWIW, it used to say O' Malley's on the big awning outside the side entrance, back when it was the Holiday Inn. It looks like the Crowne Plaza replaced the awning without the signage. I also noticed that Crowne Plaza really refurbished the lobby area, it looked alot nicer than the Holiday Inn. I'm glad they didn't mess around too much with the sports pub though, although I did see they got rid of the pool table. That was always the perfect little place to go when you wanted to just sorta hang out for the evening, without having to deal with the ridiculous crowds at McCormick & Schmick's or On The Border, or to avoid the annoying pretentiousness of e-citi.

This is factual. The Moderator is NOT Alias or TheMeeper or Gravis or Deathbycop or Pgens or REStonPeace or Trickie or……..God Forbid, Margie…..
Gravis, I noticed you tried to help out “Moderating” Alias’ recent posting of an “off color” possibly inappropriate picture. Thanks for your assistance, but, with Vince (1), threatening calling his close friends at the ACLU to sue FU, I think its important we try to only “Moderate” clear violations of Cary’s posted guidelines to avoid censorship allegations.
As all of you know, Cary is far more flexible on the “off topic” pages and therefore very little, if any, “Moderating” is needed.
Alias: Do me a favor, please try to clean up your act…just a little.
