Porkers at the movies
Posted by: Radiophile ()
Date: June 13, 2012 08:12AM

I took my wife to see Safety Not Guaranteed last night. We had a nice dinner at Ruby Tuesdays before. I know - but it was convenient. I had the salad bar and water she had a turkey burger and a margarita.

So before the movie starts, a couple walks in the theater and sits down. They each had a large popcorn, what looked like a half gallon drink, nachos and at least two other items.

My very sweet and normally not critical wife whispered in my ear and said "I bet when the go to Wolf Trap, they are 'lawn people'"

Fairfaxunderground rules: Lilliputions, not ok. Midgettville ok. I got it now.

Nachos AND popcorn?

You see some of the saddest, most brokle down looking people in movie theatres.

I haven't had a gallon of that carbonated sugar water in the past decade.

I actually have grown addicted to club soda. Bubbles, water and no salt, no high fructose corn syrup, just bubbles and water.

I typically get a small popcorn, no butter, and bottled water. Soda is incredibly bad for you. It's like someone said, "Let's come up with a drink with no health benefits that increases your chances of diabetes, obesity, tooth decay and pancreatic cancer." Awesome.

Out of any of those casual chain restaurants, I kinda like Ruby Tuesdays. Their salad bar is usually pretty good and their mini turkey sliders hit the spot. It's way better than Fridays or Applebees.

God, I hate all of those places. I can't fathom how Bennigan's went under and those places survived.

I felt like I was starving a few weeks ago after a long hike, and just stopped at the first place I could find: TGIFridays. I was surprised at how crappy their menu is, there was like nothing on there I wanted to order.

I guarantee you half the menu is made up of frozen shit they throw in the microwave. My wife was into it when the kids were little because it was relatively cheap, you could bring loud kids there and we could get alcohol. But I agree, I don't think I ever had a good meal there. I resorted to getting appetizers because their stuff just isn't appealing.

On the subject of porkers, this Friday's was somewhere off the highway in Frederick, MD. The place was filled with lard asses. The tables on both sides of me both had older guys with huge 300 pound guts on them. I should've asked them if they were on their way to the movies.

The theaters here need to start adding "Big Ass" seats like they do in Brazil.

Most people forget the oil corn is popped in. I quit the snacks after i found this out.

Even a small bag of movie popcorn contains high amounts of calories, saturated fat and sodium. For those counting calories, the salty snack is better shared with a friend or not at all.
Serving Size

A small bag of popcorn contains 6 to 11 cups of popcorn, according to research by the Center for Science in the Public Interest. One serving of popcorn generally contains about 4 cups of popcorn.
Calorie Content

The calories in a small order of popcorn vary from one movie theater to the next. A small from AMC has about 270 calories, while a Cinemark small has 420 calories. Regal Movie Theaters, with 11 cups of popcorn in a small, has more than 650 calories. Adding 1 tbsp. of butter topping adds about 130 calories to a small popcorn.
Fat

Movie popcorn is notoriously high in saturated fat because it is popped using oil or butter. Most movie theater's small order of popcorn contains an entire day's worth of saturated fat. AMC's small has 20 g of saturated fat and Regal has 34 g. Cinemark popcorn, popped using heart-healthy canola oil, has only 2 g of saturated fat in a small order. The buttery topping at Cinemark, however, adds 9 g of saturated fat per tablespoon.

Watch fat people just before they order food at a restaurant or a snack counter. They alway smile right after they say what they would like to have. It

Well, this kind of advertising certainly doesn't help...

Radiophile,
I don't think Lourdes is in any position to be critical of people's weight. She could certainly stand to lose a few pounds as well. She is quite obese.

Right...all of a sudden the lonely, overweight folk of Fairfax Underground are getting high and mighty...

"I had the salad bar and water she had a turkey burger and a margarita"

Bullshit. You and that mammoth that you share a bed with both got burgers. Cow Burgers.

"I haven't had a gallon of that carbonated sugar water in the past decade."

Really? So you aren't counting your daily vat of diet soda?

I see far more of you motherfuckers shopping at Safeway, Giant, Shoppers, etc, than I see at Whole Foods. I doubt I've found the last bastion of health here on the Underground.

Fat people are everywhere and why not. If you get fat enough you get disablility and no longer have to work. You get a handicapped parking space and an electric scooter paid for by the government. Whats not to like. All you have to do now is wait around for massive heart attack headed your way.
In the meantime you get to bitch and moan about accomadations because airline and movie seats dont fit your fat ass.

The fattest and most disgusting people eat at Cracker Barrel and Bob Evan's, followed by all those country style buffets.

So glad I stopped drinking soda. It's helped a lot in my journey to lose weight. Goal is to get back to my football playing weight (185). Scale read 195 last night...so I'm close. Damn, I had no idea the movie popcorn was THAT bad. Jeez. 650 calories. Imagine those jokers that go to the movies often. Yikes.
