They just ran the Fairfax County edition of To Catch a Predator with Chris Hansen. They had the rabbi and the nude guy from Centreville.

The channel seems to be running a Lockup/TCAP marathon for Memorial's Day. They need to combine those two shows by following up on these dudes in jail.

First, he didn't say it was contemptible. He said he was uncomfortable using it as a general term for all war dead. Second, his point being that glorifying these sacrifices may lead to more desire for war at the expense of more human lives. Granted, this is probably a philosophical conversation better suited for a venue other than a live political talk show.

I think Robert E. Lee put it best. "It is well that war is so terrible - otherwise we would grow too fond of it." As inarticulate as Hayes was, I think that was the general sentiment he was going for.

Yeah he stepped on his own dick. But I get what he is saying. The word hero has been whored out too much.

If you're too fucktarded to say what you mean on a national TV broadcast, have to have people decipher your every comment/intention, and can't steer clear at maybe the most obvious of the verboten subjects in US political discourse, perhaps you should find another profession than being on TV.

First, it's not a national TV broadcast...it's cable...there is a distinction. Second, you are basically echoing my point. A live TV show during Memorial Day Weekend is not the place to be ruminating about why calling war dead "heroes" makes you uncomfortable. Third, I doubt Hayes will be fired over this, but it would not shock be to see him suspended for a month because of it.

I wasn't actually disagreeing with you. I was simply saying that if you have to be an apologist for his poor choice of words and timing, perhaps he should be in another line of work, like blogger. Also, this wasn't some local PBS show. It was a nationally-televised panel show, regardless of its distribution on cable.

Well you have to cut him some slack, he just started his own show not too long ago. These round-table type discussion shows aren't always polished and refined considering people think on their feet.

I think the most interesting thing was reading the comments on that site the video is posted. Most people resorted to tired old cliches about another msnbc liberal lefty etc.... Few tried to even comprehend where he's coming from.

Why do republicans tend to resort to name calling instead of discussing the topic at hand???

Maybe he meant martyr instead of hero. A martyr sacrifices his life for a cause. What was the cause in Iraq?
