LIMA, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio sheriff's deputy says a 3-day-old infant died hours after she was attacked by a family dog while sitting in a swing.

Chief Deputy Jim Everett of the Allen County Sheriff's Office in Lima (LY'-muh) says the baby girl suffered a head injury at her grandmother's home near Beaverdam on Thursday. Everett says the mother put the infant in the swing in to prepare to feed her and was a few feet away in the kitchen with the baby's grandmother. He says they heard a whimper and found the infant injured.

They took her to a local hospital. She was flown to a Toledo hospital, where she died. Everett says the dog appeared to be a pit bull and is in the dog warden's custody.

I dont care what these owners say Pit Bulls are vicious dogs.

I just ate some beef sticks from a Chinese take out. They were a little tough, but juicy and salty. I bet that infant had the same texture and taste.

Blessed are the murderous.

But, not as dangerous as their (people) own stupidity. And, I agree, they are vicious dogs.

3 days old and in a swing? im no daddy, but, it seems a child of that age should be laying down in a crib not sitting up unsupported and unattended for that matter.

the people should see legal action for child neglect and endangerment. parents should learn that leaving your little precious alone with any animal is not smart.

Why in the hell do people let animals around babies? No matter the size of the dog, it should not be near a baby.

http://wtvr.com/2012/05/03/jack-russell-terrier-killed-after-infant-attack/

"CULPEPER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A Virginia infant is listed in stable condition following an attack that involved the family dog, a Jack Russell terrier, according to Corey Byers, Public Information Officer with the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office.

Byers said a family member found the dog biting the newborn in the infant’s bassinet Tuesday evening. The child, said to be less than a month old, suffered more than 30 dog bites, Byers said. The baby was initially taken to Fauquier Hospital for treatment, but later flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church."

I think they should put the parents down and let the dog raise the child.

That has nothing to do with Pit Bulls. Any infant can easily become the victim of a dog attack, and for various reasons. Many dogs have high prey drives for instance, and they'll see an infant they don't know very well as a potential meal. The crying and erratic movements can set this behavior off, and especially in combination with an infant's smaller size. On top of that, at three days old the infant is a complete stranger to the dog, and you should treat the situation accordingly.

Even once the child gets older, you still have to supervise them because they'll often do stupid things to a dog, like constantly yanking on their tails, and I've even heard of a case where some toddler jammed a broken pencil into a dog's ear (The St. Bernard justifiably lashed out, but ended up mauling the kid as a result of such).

All-in-all, the parents were dumb.
