An also-ran radio station in DC still reaches more people than 99 percent of the podcasts out there. The problem for Mike is the economics have changed. Stations can't throw millions of dollars at "talent" anymore. There's too much competition. If Mike would take "janitor's wages," which is probably still six figures, and not show up to interviews after four beers, he might land something.

On a recent Don Geronimo Show podcast, Don stated that his salary at KHTK towards the end was around $250,000 per year with his sidekick making around $125,000. In the past on his podcast, he has also stated that at one point after the RELM stuff, the podcast subcriptions covered more than his KHTK salary, although not sure how much his sidekicks made or make now on the podcast. But if you assume at least $300,000 in subscriptions needed per year, that works out to a minimum of 2500 paid subscribers, and probably substantially more given other necessary expenses.

I like cussing on TV (cable edits too much out) but not on radio. I listened to Ron & Fez, a superior show on radio and then on satellite and it was better without the cussing. They could Still cuss and be on the radio, broadcast live show with a dump button and podcast the live recording without the dump. The real problem besides the actual lack of quality shows and the marquee name often not showing up for work, is that they stick to a stupid format even when they have guests to suit one small station in Iowa. And the news and audio vulva parts of that format suck major ass.
