It doesn't take much to be a decent DJ. Robb doesn't even have the chops, the knowledge or the musical taste to be a shitty DJ. Hence, he doesn't have a real DJ gig anywhere (and the station in Iowa doesn't count because the guy who owns it is a complete fucktard).

Robb thinks LOUD + REPETETIVE = FUNNY

Those two things equal ANNOYING.

The guy is clueless.

Lets face it, the guy Robb shoehorned his way onto a local radio show 25 years ago by way of an internship, and then the show eventually went into syndication (regardless of his involvement). It's not like he had anything to do with the formula of Don and Mike or is attributable to the success of the show. Now he hangs out in a living room.

Robb is a bad DJ because he doesnt know how to make artistic choices. When you are making a party playlist, you usually have to edit some songs out for some reason or another. You have to think of your audience.

One look at Robb trying to interject every other word on TMOS shows that he doesn't ha e that type of judgment.

Listening to the Failcast yesterday where Mike talked about the D&M show and then listening to Don's show last night where he talked about the D&M show was like hearing two completely different descriptions of the same thing.

Don's show = Optomistic pep talk peppered with nostalgia
Failcast = Blame laden eulogy dripping with regret

Fucking ponderous

But wait a minute fellas, he has 30,000 songs on his ipad and a juke box for gods sake. If that doesn't make you a DJ I would have to question everything. The only thing that prick is good at is piling on those less fortunate like Dennis Murphy and someone getting their face ripped off by a chimp. He is real tough and opinionated behind the mic but was afraid to confront his neighbor who blatantly stole his trash can. He got so mad that he bashed that evil Ann Curry and made fun of the costco lady(who is just trying to make a living) the next day. Yeah, he's a talented mother fucker...

agree 100%. And don't forget that Don was totally honest about everything that happened, admitted that he made a mistake (in going back to work too soon) and acknowledged how much of an angry prick he was.
Honesty, admitting fault, and taking responsibility for your own actions and failings. Mike will probably have to look up all those words in the dictionary, because he is clearly unfamiliar.

Mike was always a good second banana on the Don & Mike show. The few times when Mike had to step up and handle the show solo (ie. Don stepped out of the studio for something), Mike was clearly uncomfortable and out of his league. Hence I totally understand why his own show sucks AND he should too...

Mike's story is fucking pathetic. He's anxious, waiting by the phone to see if Don is going to call him. Don doesn't. That gives Mike weird feelings until he "moved on."

Mike "moved on" because he had no choice because Don is never going to call. Mike makes it sound like a choice, but it was never a choice because there were never two options to choose from.

Mike should have said..."There are no plans for a reunion. I wish Don well." Be the bigger man (no pun intended) for once, you self-centered man-child douche bag.

This may be undersold on this site. Mike said that he couldn't sleep because of feelings? He's a character.

Meanwhile, the last two BOAD episodes have featured Chad shaking with rage bc a) he didn't know some people at Drab's bday party and b) some other BS thing I can't remember. They need to do an angsty show together.

and I LOVE how LFF attempted to spin it that he had all those "weird" feelings after the announcement
and then says he had several sleepless nights due to don coming back 'till he could "move on"

it really sounds like he was nervous about having to make a decision about whether or not to do a reunion, but then was never contacted and the decision was made for him

You are so correct. Mike acting like he had a choice in the matter. If Don called Mike and wanted to do a reunion, what do you think Mike would say?

Anyway, I really hope they appear on each other's show at least once. Wouldn't that be cool???

Do you think Don will start reading infomercials on his show now that he's back on in DC - Mike's turf! Don's going to have to copy Mike's highly successful formula if Don wants to make it in the DC market!

Formula:

Wing it on a shitty opening vignette + 20 minutes of wishing random people happy birthday (what the fuck???) + badly performed outdated impressions that don't actually sound like the person being mimicked + 40-to-60 minutes of infomercials + reading a list from Yahoo.com without proofreading it first then realizing halfway through that its not a real list (what an idiot) + lots of verbal crutches ("horrible" "incidentally" "unhinged my jaw" "the land of suck"...) + bad grammar ("people that") + bitching + "not getting all political" while bloviating about politics + not listening and then asking people questions that were just explained seconds ago + shitty "guests" (local random shop owners, police officers, military colonels) + reading Yahoo News cold with terrible sing-song cadence.

Sweet success!

While it might not be the Birthplace of Funk, it would be incorrect to say it doesn't maintain a residence in DC...Try as you will, but it is inexcusable to not make the connection between MotorBootyAffair and Parliament...To refer to them as a DISCO BAND is an unforgivable sin...As was playing EW&F when describing them...If I lived in Memphis, I would be ridiculed for calling Elvis a Country act and then playing Carl Perkins music in the background while I talked about Elvis...I don't see a difference...

The really sad thing about a trolling board like this is you all are SO LATE to the party it isn't funny. Listen to the show from August 2005 when Don is out and you can instantly see that Robb as a replacement doesn't work nor can Mike steer the ship. That was evident very early on.

The actual Don and Mike Show was severely damaged with the Janet Jackson incident and was killed when Freda passed. But from 1997-2003, I'm sure there wasn't a better radio show in the world. It was so good there weren't many TV shows that were better.

Mr. C -

There are many veterans here. I've been listening to the show (s) since the summer of 97, and I know many of my colleagues here have similarly strong tenures.

The failings of Mike as a solo host during Don's absences has been discussed several times, including in the last ten days or so. Part of the problem with assessing those shows in this community is that they were so few in number. Also, they were unexpected.

This community, sir, is not late to any Mike bashing party. How dare you.

Stick around though. I like your style.

Respectfully,

Fan since 1997

For me, the big difference between Don and Mike is that Don will (and always has) put himself right out there and tell you what's going on with him.

He'll tell you about his life, his problems with management, his thoughts and feelings about everything that's going on around him. And he'll usually be able to put a spin on it that makes it funny or compelling -- because it's REAL.

Mike could do the same thing, but he's never been comfortable with that -- he's a new father at the age of 54 -- that could provide plenty of material, but you rarely hear anything about it.

So what does Mike talk about?

1) He went big potty
2) His dog went big potty
3) Mike and his dog both went big potty

If it wasn't for shit, Mike wouldn't have a show.

In fairness, that's the side of LFF's house, not the front. And while it's no mansion, it's not a total dump, either.

Also, I really appreciate the work of TMOS stats. Not only does it illustrate Mike's laziness and Robbbb's hackiness, but it also lets me know exactly how long to fast-forward the start of the show so I don't have to listen to the lame "vignette" or the unexplained audio clip.

Heard Donny the last two days post all the past talk and no D&M reunion. He is masterful with callers and still gets his shit in there with the sports stuff. And he had an NFL insider on last night and actually listened to the fucking guy and unlike LFF got great non football conversation from the guy, think he is Jason LaCantore from CBS, Don asked if he was starting a bath, and he said he was having wine, and that's when it got good. Don has become a good interviewer, I think he'll do great with LFF and on a sports kind of show.

Don was always a good interviewer. Not many people can put on a lady who sells cakes online and turn it into 20 minutes of entertainment. On the flip side, LFF got Ann Coulter and she had to tell him to shut the fuck up so she could answer his question. Besides doing impressions, which he mysteriously started doing again now that Don is on the air in DC, LFF has no talent. He's arrogant and unfunny and a terrible husband, father, friend and business associate. Frankly, if it weren't for his Bob Barker, he would be Robb.

Notice the stark contrast in styles...Don masterfully handles the phone calls...Mike and Robbbb are terrified of them...How can you do "talk radio" without callers? That would be like having a restaurant that doesn't want to serve customers...

When LFF and Robbay are flummoxed by Tom Gavin, is it any wonder they fear callers? That, and the technological hurdles they face -- LFF continues to hold his cellphone up to his microphone when he calls Carla.

Now THAT is thought provoking, well done sir. Listened to the bonus show a few minutes ago (of course it was awful and I now regret buying the whole year and won't make the same mistake next year) but Mike made mention of the "failcast". And we all know how the restaurant turned out. It strikes me now that Mike didn't buy a restaurant to serve customers and make money as much as he bought a huge open bar where he could indulge nightly without pulling out his wallet

Just listened to Don's Saturday morning show. It was mostly sports but he is able to keep it light and squeezed in quite a few funny stories. I like sports so I liked the show with his demented spin on it. He loves to mess with the callers. At the end they had a contest for listeners to predict the Wash/Den score. The prize....a Don and Mike hoodie! It seems they have quite a few laying around the station.
