Jodi Bacon was on the show for a lot longer than a week. She left the show to focus on Grant and Mike's show only. Not the best move, but it was her move. She was working for them before Don got to KHTK and was doing work for both shows until she decided to stick with Grant and Mike and let someone else take over for Don's show. Don wanted her to stay, but understood her loyalty to Grant's show.

Point is if Jody had kept performing like she did for the few weeks on the show, Don would have booted her ass. He kicked out Lady G and has Craig the intern in studio now. He gets the right people in place, imho. Also noticed he changed the commercial schedule to fewer breaks, but longer ones. All smart moves.

Don is the star of that station. Jodi was a cold fish on air. Don may have had an excuse for her, but I have no doubt if he wanted her on his show, she would be on it.

I heard Mike on The Edge this morning bemoaning how WJFK cut him loose and how he had to be the one who made the phone call to management to find out he was gone. He complained about the management's "cowardice."
Maybe Mike should spend less time being bitter about the past and more time trying to make this fading opportunity at The Edge pan out. It may be too late, though.

Yeah right, everyone knew for weeks that the inevitable was just around the corner. The real issue was what Mike did about it, NOTHING! Now he finds himself in the exact same situation. What is he doing about it? That's right, NOTHING!
Surely he is spending more time at the station, maybe doing some cross-promotion in other dayparts, dropping in on other shows? Well maybe he is organizing a mini media tour with the local media? Perhaps he is working with the sales department to plan more appearances? Trying to pull together sponsors for a big contest?

I think he did towards the end. He started having more sports guests at least, particularly Caps players. And Cooley's brother, who I guess counts.

Yep the format's dead. Don's show is rubbish. That's why he's taken KHTK from worst to very close to first in roughly 4 months. It's why he's already in talks for a syndication deal. and for those outside of Sacramento, dons live show is at a fairground/ multipurpose area called cal expo( this friday), and he has 2500 seats available, which the 2100 that were released in various stores and locations were gone in the first 10 days, and the ones he has been giving away have been for contests...

While I agree that his "bonus" shows are slightly better than the regular podcasts (I've only listened to about 3 "bonus" shows), he would still not be successful if that was his normal format.
Let's remember, he's still Mike O'meara which means he's still a failure!

The Don and Mike Show was great, and Mike's new show isn't so I can understand some negativity. But I don't understand why Don's put on a pedestal. He blew his voice out years ago so that perpetual frog in his throat is painfully unpleasant listening. He's a high school drop out with a limited vocabulary who compensates for his insecurities by bullying his callers. And he's still playing morning zoo sound bites, effects and bubblegum music circa 1970... passé cornball radio.

If you ever had the misfortune of listening to his Sunday morning show on JFK you would understand why he is relegated to reading the news. That show had to be one of the most boring yet uncomfortable radio programs I have ever heard. It made "Joe Radio" sound like "Casey's Top 40".
I did find listening to about five minutes of Buzz squirm on air without copy in front of him was about all I could take of that program.

I have to admit, continually "shitting on" the show, much as it deserves it, does occasionally give me remorse. I mean since it's basically generating $0 net revenue it's somewhat akin to throwing piss-filled balloons at a panhandling street musician. At the end of the show (about 1 hour 4 mins into the show), mike refers to this site. he was saying something about taking his shirt off and pictures of him ending up on "that web site." couple this with a remark he made the other day about how certain sites hurt his feelings, and you have proof that mike reads this thread. it is funny how hard he takes it.

It's been pretty well documented here that the podcast itunes rankings don't mean anything, except to Mike.
It's my understanding that the rankings only reflect recent subscriptions or downloads of the cast. Only the nationaly known ones seem to stay high in the rankings for any length of time.
Mike is the only person with a podcast that I've ever heard who actually begged for people to download it via itunes so his podcast ranking would improve. Then when his cast was briefly in the top 20 he quickly listed that fact in the promotion materials for his show, before it quickly fell back into oblivion.
In case you still care; Don's ranking was #1 when his station started putting up the podcast, Mike's never came close.

Don's live show is free to listeners, who just had to go to a record store chain to get their tickets. 2500-3000 people will be in attendance tonight, so technically it is sold out.

I was at Don's show, and I'm not sure about the "slipped on some water" story being passed around. He was pretty drunk, and I think he didn't realize how close he was to the end of the stage when he bent over and crashed to the ground. He made a sickening thud when he hit the ground. Janet was standing in front of me when it happened and naturally freaked the fuck out. Scary shit. I've never gone from laughing my ass off to being stunned silent that quickly before.
