A 6-year-old child has been killed following an accident with a wood chipper in Salem.

Jeffrey Bourgeois, 6, was killed when he was sucked into a wood chipper.

Police say there is no criminal aspect to this accident.

That sucks. Thanks dad for taking me to work with you! If I ever have a body to get rid of I would use a wood chipper. My second choice would be the fire place.

The father apparently has no common sense. How can any rational person think it's ok to use a woodchipper while 3 yound children are under your charge. That's the issue many people have. That father is going to have to think about this everyday for the rest of his life. He will be known as the father with no common sense.

Perhaps it's time for a new safety feature for woodchippers. I read on another site (of a man be decapitated by a woodchipper), that there is a woodchipper with a foot control. In other words, if something happens and the chipper needs to be turned off immediately, just release the foot control. Perhaps it is a safety feature that is long overdue because when something goes wrong, the devasting results can be immediate and because there will always be persons who aren't viligant with safety.

But using a wood chipper requires a lot of movement. I don't think keeping a foot pedal depressed is practical or realistic.

First off, do we really need to see warning labels stating that children should not opperate these things?

Second, the more safeties you add to this sort of equipment, the slower the process of using them. The longer the process the higher the price. How long before whatever mechanism is put into place before someone/everyone starts disabling it?

Third, unless you can change physics, there is no way to stop one of those things instantly.

Forth, sometimes.....people like this father, are only here to serve as a warning to others.
