I'm posting from the library. I suppose I could steal this computer and sell it but I don't want to go to jail. I have kids to feed also that's the said part.

This gives the lie to your statement that you're not eligible for welfare, is your statement that you have kids to feed. If you're unemployed and broke and you have kids, you're eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps.

Only for six months if you are male. Mom's can have the program extended.
Everyone is eligible for welfare and unemployment. If nothing else make up a disease and collect social security disability. A former co worker of mine collects a fat check every month. He said his "bad back" makes it so he cannot sit down or stand for anymore than fifteen minutes thereby making him unsuited for any job. The same guy owns a boat and goes water skiing every summer.

I'd like to avoid jail for fraud if possible. I'm an honest person and would like to keep it that way. I don't do drugs or drink either.
Department of Family Services, Coordinated Services, Northern Virginia Family Services, Food for Others (where they actually give deer meat!), Department of Rehabilitation Services (for work) or go to a place like Joblink or something.

That's a good point. I don't believe they'd post on FU for advice. Kind of like the person asking about Hispanic Services. Probably a conservative trying to fire people up but yeah, if kids are involved, it's pretty easy to get benefits. You can even walk in to a DFS building, no appt. necessary.
They also wouldn't call it "welfare" especially if they've already looked into it. Welfare doesn't exist except in the minds of Conservatives assuming that that's how lazy people get by.
It's called TANF, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. Then if you have a disability, you would qualify for Supplementary Security Income (SSI) or SSDI if you worked (Social Security Disability Income).
I think saying welfare is easier than saying Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. Lets be real its the same thing, being paid not to work. I could be wrong but didnt Fairfax put section 8 housing into luxury condos. Not a bad deal if you ask me. The sooner this guy and others realize work is for suckers the better off they will be.
If this person is for real whatever skills they have, if any, are not in demand. The chances he/she will ever land a high paying job seem to be next to zero.
Living on welfare or whatever you want to call it and collecting food stamps will in the end make their existence similar to that of working at a minimum wage job. To summuarize why bother to get up every day and slog into work and listen to some dick boss yell at you when you can stay home and live the same lifestyle.
Some people are ok with that and dont mind living that way.

Section 8 housing is spread around so no ONE area or developer has to deal with it. Can you image if Fairfax county put all the section housing in ONE development. That would be disaster area that would eventually take down the entire area around county.
I dont know that anyone should be given a luxury condo with swimming pools, clubrooms and gyms while living off others.
The incenctive again is taken away to do better in life when doing so will disqualify you for living in the section 8 luxury condo.

Why anybody would want to live on foods stamp or welfare is far beyond me. It would completely suck to have no vacation in Cancun or Vegas, eat shit food and drink cool-aid all the time. No to mention getting all your clothing from goodwill. I'd rather have a good $400 suit, mercedes and look sharp for the ladies.

A luxury condo with shit stained couches, beds on the floors and a car from the 70's out front. The neighbors must laugh their asses off all the time.

Section 8 (Choice Housing Voucher) list has been closed to applicants for years. This is actually too bad because affordable housing is a huge problem for the poor and disabled and some do need housing programs like Section 8 but it's not avaialble in Fairfax and even when you do get on the list, it takes years for your name to get to the top.
I don't know why poor live in this area. Many don't drive so the transportation for the poor and disabled is better than in bum-fuck Virginia but your benefits are the same amount no matter where you live. I suppose there are more jobs but it's impossible to live on minimum wage and even if you get benefits, no way to live on 220 (TANF) or 674 (SSI) per month. And contrary to popular belief, having kids doesn't get you anything more $ unless your kid is also disabled so the 674 amount is going to stay the same so having kids to get more welfare is just as much of a myth as welfare itself. If people actually know what the "government hand outs" were for the poor (of which probably less than 5% are taking advantage of the system, most are significantly disabled and for real), they wouldn't be complaining about it or "Obama-care". It's pretty impossible to live in this area on those amounts so people need to stop thinking that people are living well on benefits alone. Best thing to do is try to get marketable skills so work with a job development agency. Employment is the only answer and there are plenty of jobs around for people with skills.

Seriously! I worked worked my ass off to get a good job and I got plenty of dough. It seriously would suck and does for those folks.
I don't drive a fancy car but prefer a $1500 dollar wool/silk blend by Valentino. Zegna always feels cheap and over-priced to me but skip the $400 suit and go better. I wouldn't be caught dead in anything less than an $800 Hugo Boss. Italian is the only way I go. Those poor folks can have my old Calvin Kleins at the Good-will.
FOX 5 has discovered Fairfax County taxpayers are footing the bill for luxury amenities like pools, billiards tables and indoor basketball courts as part of its affordable housing program run by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
Stones, for someone who wears thousand dollar suits and lives the good life you seem to have an acute knowledge of welfare benefits and the waiting list for section 8 housing. Just sayin

I spent many a years saving the world, being a hippie and working for non-profits with persons with all types of disabilities but now I'm a corporate and roll in dough :) It causes conflicts for sure.
Anyway, I'll check out that story but I'm certain it's not as simple as it looks. There is a flaw that folks who got Section-8 years ago when they were poor can still use it even when they get a ton of money but rent is based on their income (30% of their income) and the payment standard is super low (around 1100/month for a 1 bedroom) so although there are technically ways to work the system, it's probably less than 1% of 1% and definitely the exception. Either way, if they then score it rich, their rent is comparable to what most other folks would be paying anyway and the government's share is not all that much (basically person pays 30% of their income and the govt. pays the rest so if 30% of their income is $1099, govt [or right out your child's college fund as conservatives seem to think] only pays $1. So it's not as simple as public perception.
Anyway, a lot of those "luxuries" are donated to the housing development. And housing developments are different than Section-8. They shelter a lot of low-income families and I think kids deserve to have healthy activities where they live. It takes a village, know what I'm sayin'? You don't want all those poor kids to be bored and come steal my suits and your Benz do you?

Doesn't really matter to me if you believe me. I love luxury but it means nothing if you believe me. I'm not gonna send you my bank account or anything. I was just responding to you earlier because I appreciate good suits and being poor would suck and the benefits are not as good as the Right Wing would have you believe. You can drink their kool-aid. I don't care.
What's really funny though is that even though I actually do have many $1500 suits, I am actually wearing walmart jeans right now. I'm working from home and I bought a pair of "Faded Glory" jeans to paint in once and they end up aging really nicely. I guess cause they are cheap, they lose color in the knees quicker and it's a much faster process than buying $100 raw denim. I always get compliments on these. Oh and I do own a Toyota and a Truck but the toyota is an Avalon and the truck is a Honda! No hauling junk signs though.
Whatever, I like to look good whether it's Walmart jeans or a Valentino suit and I have money and can afford whatever looks best on me.

That's one of FOX 5's misleading statements to trick you into watching their news. Almost all apartment complexes in Fairfax county have a "community room complex." That statement is like saying the county built pool rooms etc for section 8 and that's not the case at all.
If welfare is unavailable, you could apply for a government job or contractor job. That would be workfare.
Or you could apply to the military to fight 'terrorists'. That would be warfare.
Or you could go ask Mr. Bernanke for a non-recourse 0.05% loan till you get a job. You could use it to trade and support yourself. That would be wealthfare.
The point is if you live at the same level in life on welfare as you do on a minimum wage job why bother to work? Unless you enjoy getting up everyday and going to a job the choice is obvious. There is a segment in society that doesnt mind living in public housing. Sure they wish it was a nice home but to do that you have to win the lottey or get a job.
Malcolm X once compared welfare to heroin. They give you just enough to keep you hooked.
Are you all missing the point? It sucks being low-income. The benefits you think exist, don't and any "luxury" related to Section-8 (Again, this term hasn't been used for 8 years so you're already showing your ignorance) or public housing are fairly basic. Besides, there are not "Section-8" apartment complexes. Regular apartment complexes have the option to accept section-8. In fact, you could rent your basement out as a Section-8 apartment.
The point of the matter is that the waitlists are years long, the people who need this housing can't get in and 99% of these people are seriously disabled and would trade everything to have their health back. Just about everyone wants to work because the money (what you are calling welfare, which again, does not exist) is so bad that they can't make ends meet but they can't work because no-one wants disabled people around and the economy is not good enough to have extra people just to help keep them on track or help them physically. And just "not working" is not going to get you any of these benefits. It's not really the "poor", it's disabled, elderly or homeless families who can even access the limited benefits that do exist and it's never enough.
And it's extremely hard to even get declared "disabled". Very few people are able to bilk the system. A disability determination takes up to 6 months, most people get denied even if they are disabled because the govt. doesn't want people on disability so they make it really difficult. And food stamps? If you are family of 1, i.e., no kids, it's about $10 a month.
You guys really don't know what your are talking about but it's amusing to hear you spout out the conservative rhetoric. You're like a klan of retarded people who can't actually think for yourselves, don't educate yourself on the real issues and then repeat what Fox news told you the night before. And you're not even repeating it very well.

Because the average conservative lives in a fantasy world, where they patriotically work their fingers to the bone everyday so that immigrants and freeloaders can live in the lap of luxury and buy mansions with their food stamps. This makes reasoning with them very difficult.

It's very hard to get. That's why there are so many lawyers advertising to help with it. Whether you believe it or not, the government does not want people on social security disability so the general process makes it very difficult to get. The amount you get is decent compared to SSI but it depends on your work history and only available to people who have a consistent work history of 10 years (40 quarters). You have to be really disabled to get it and it takes up to 6 months.

Almost as difficult as dealing with liberals who believe some people really hate living off other peoples money. Our office was near a public housing unit in Alexandria. When going into 7-11 for a cup of coffee each morning I would see the residents lined up buying scores of lottery tickets. If you have money to spend on lottery tickets you have money to spend on food.

Do people on that get taxed? Are they required to file income tax yearly. I've heard they put you through a lot when you apply for that?

But you're just not accurate. That's not actually what's going on. You are seriously an idiot if you believe any of that.
Look, I work hard too and if what you all believe were actually the case, I'd be right with you storming the castle. I admit, I lean to the left but it's not that I disagree with conservatives for how they believe, it's what they believe. If my reality were skewed as well and tainted by a narrow perspective, I'd be saying the same shit you do. But it's simply not true and especially in the case of housing. And in the very rare instances where there are people taking advantage of a system, it's an extreme outlier.

Everyone has to file taxes, but they are usually all under the amount in which they would owe. And you can work too but not "gainful employment". For SSDI you can work up to $1000/month and it doesn't affect your disability. SSI, if you work, it reduces your disablity by half of what you make (simple generalization, there is a more complicated equation).
Everyone I know on SSDI worked their ass off too and then were affected by a signficant health event (last 6 months of cancer, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries) so it's funny to hear people think that all this stuff is helps immigrants and the lazy when they themselves very well may need it some day. All it takes is one idiot to run a red light.

I was being sarcastic. Anyone who thinks it's advantageous to be on welfare is an idiot (and probably a Republican).

I love the way conservatives have some preternatural ability to identify welfare recipients simply by looking at them. I'm sure you're not racist though.

Sorry, I was thinking you a right winger being rhetorical! It's really not surprising to see statements that outlandish and being for real.
