I think mine is like 780 and I have only been late paying an amex bill like twice.

Altho I don't really have much credit of my own.. I just recently started paying my phone bill in my name; I have no college loans, cuz my parents just pay for school; the few places I have lived don't seem to report credit. Aside from one Amex card in my name and the phone, I don't have any other means of building or ruining my credit and I have a 780. My parents have like 800 and 840 and they've never not been able to make a payment on anything.

Anything above 650 is considered "above average," and it's pretty hard to get turned down for bad credit with a rating in the 700's. I think mine is in like, the 400's and I rarely ever have a problem.

I heard that a bankruptcy will show on a credit report, but a credit report is hardly the last word on any loan.

I think bankruptcies stay on a credit report for seven years....


For some reason, lenders seem to report to Transunion the least, I have a pretty decent score on Transunion, but I'm a dirtbag on Equifax and Experian.

Something like that. But bankruptcy isn't the end of the world. I've known at least two people IRL who filed for bankruptcy a few years back and they're fine today. Shit happens; it's all about how you play the hand you're dealt.

You are not getting any loans with a score in the 400s. Not a chance. I dont think Eastern Motors could find that loan.

Exactly. Credit score is only one part of the consideration. If I got a 100k/year job tomorrow, my 400 credit score would be less of an issue if I applied for a loan. A high credit score is really only good for getting low interest rates and getting credit if you don't have a large income.

Back to the point, even if Graymoose did file for bankruptcy four years ago, it doesn't really matter as long as he's financially stable today. No lender is going to say, "Well, I see you make sufficient income now and you haven't had a problem in recent years, but we can't give you a loan because of this one negative comment on your credit report."

Well, I care. We always run a credit report on a potential tenant, and there's no way I'd rent to someone with a bad credit score. Homes are foreclosed on for a reason - the owners weren't paying the mortgage. If they didn't pay their mortgage, why would I trust them to pay the rent? Yes, shit happens, but I don't want your shit to become my problem. And I think a lot of that shit comes from people's own poor decision making, not circumstances beyond their control.

By the way, I think it's despicable for someone to out someone else's financial history. Mind your own business.

If by one negative comment you mean the bankruptcy itself, it doesn't work that way exactly.

When you file for bankruptcy you basically say you're going to get your shit together and not let your life fall into ruin again for at least seven years.

In return, debts are dismissed or new terms are laid out for them and then they close the books on your financial information prior to the execution date.

All your prior debt if it's listed at all will show a zero balance due. They can still point out payment history but they can't report how much debt was discharged.

Pretty much..........there's just this big blip of a bankruptcy and then nothing prior to that.

As long as you have an income post bankruptcy, your numbers will climb immediately based on what has happened ONLY since the bankruptcy.
