GOP = Shitty City Upon A Hill
Date: January 25, 2012 03:27PM

Reagan didn't win by being negative. But that's all Romney and Gingrich can muster. The GOP vision for America is to make it a Third World shit hole where the 1% and their 13.9% tax rate hide behind their private security fences and police forces while average Americans lose their jobs, homes, retirements, health care and social security. God forbid today's rich should pay tax rates similar to what were paid back in the 1950s...a time Republicans like to claim as idyllic.

You expect Obama to run a positive campaign?

The Democratic vision for the US is North Korea with all the central economic planning and supreme leader beholden to no one they want.

I hope you don't like eating

You do realize you sound insane to normal people, don't you? Another reason why Obama will win.

Only capital gains profit pays that tax rate. They money was taxed at the normal rate when it was earned and then gets retaxed when it is invested. Its the same rate for everyone. But I know facts dont matter

Lol!

I would have used the words "spittle enhanced" but you're pretty darn close to my perception of that particular poster w.r.t. this subject.

(long term) Capital gains tax rate is 15%.

Romney paid 13.N% overall.

Fear is the nucleus of conservativism. It's something easy for them to understand. That's why so many of them would actually believe that a slight increase in taxes on millionaires equates to a jackbooted Communist plot to turn America into a military dictatorship.

Of course it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but neither does the average conservative.

Actually, carried interest...his fees...are taxed at 15%, as well. In fact, Private Equity Funds like Bain don't pay their management regular income at all. All compensation is through carried interest and investment income.

If you would bother to look up the compensation of the Top CEOs of the country, their actual "salaries" are miniscule compared to the compensation they receive through stock options, which are taxed as capital gains.

But I know facts don't matter.

Here's why I can't buy into these "1%" arguments:

1. The top 1% account for approx 30% of all federal income tax revenue
2. 47% of the population pays ZERO income taxes

So almost half of the population is contributing nothing, and the rich aren't paying their "fair share"?

It seems to me the 47% are the ones gaming the system, not the rich.

Facts do matter, the difference is I am not ideologically opposed to people making money. I want people to make money. Its good for the country for people to make money. I want people to have money. I have no problem with them getting stock options for their jobs.

I also want people to invest in the stock market. Thats good for companies and gives start ups the needed income to have a chance at success. Even Obama proposed eliminating Capital gains tax on ALL investments made into small businesses and start up companies for a year to help them grow. The house passed it and the do nothing senate let it die.

When people have money they spend it which helps everyone, and most give to charities as well. There should be incentives to invest money. Its not a guarantee you will make money off of that and you can lose every last penny of it unlike a salary unless you get fired.

I've explained this on FFXU before.

The Top 1% pay 30% of the taxes but control 40% of the wealth. The 49% in the middle pay a disproportionate amount of taxes compared to the wealth they control. It's basically socialism for the rich.

The wealthy spend a much smaller percentage of their income than do poor and middle class people. I have nothing against people making money. I do have a problem with multimillionaires and billionaires getting away with 13.9% tax rates while we are talking about gutting the Medicare system I have paid into all of my working life.

So you'd be in favor of a Flat Tax system where everyone paid the exact same rate?

A small percentage only make their money off of capital gains. 75 percent of millionaire and more pay a much larger rate than that. The ones who pay that rate are also the ones whose money allow businesses to have the capital to have a chance and employ people and provide goods we all want.

If youre over the age of 40 no one is talking about even touching your benefits. But the fact is medicare and social security are things we pay into far more than we would ever get back from. People get something like 70 cents to the dollar back now in social security. If you are smart with your money you would be better off not having those programs and being allowed to just keep the money.

But if nothing is done to get the spending in those programs under control then it wont matter, our deficit will be outrageous even compared to what it is now and inflation will start devaluing money. Basically every economist agrees and the deficit committee agrees as well.

I dont know about you but I would have my benefits changed with a reform and personally I would much rather see my benefits change then drag down the country with a selfish its all about my entitlements attitude that crippled Greece.

Fear Meep?

Come on man. That's you guys not us.

That's another neat little tactic however. It's getting kind of old though. Accuse your enemy of the exact same behavior you are guilty of.

For the last 40 years all we have heard from your side is how dangerous conservatism is.

If the nasty conservatives come to power it will be the end of Medicare. They want grandma eating dog food. They will take milk from the babies. Children won't get to eat at school. The water and air will be polluted. The freaking seas will rise from global warming and we will drown and burn. (that's one of my favorite. You actually channel Chicken fucking Little.) They want children to die. They will take away all your constitutional rights. They are racist, homophobes, anti immigrant. There will be more rapes, fires and mayhem everywhere. Back alley abortions everywhere. Gun brandishing bible totin' Tea Partiers will be running wild through the streets. Big oil keeping us all addicted to.....big oil.

You are full of it Meep. More and more people are finally figuring out they've been fooled by all the liberal nonsense. Racism, Classism, and keeping American's divided in every possible way is in the liberals copyrighted playbook. Liberals based primarily in the Democrat party own the market on fear. Not conservatives. Nice try at flipping the playing field though.

Why all of sudden are you so concerned for the poor WTL?

In this thread you seemed perfectly happy not give a rats ass and defending the rise of basic commodity prices under the Obama admistraton that negatively impact the poor more directly then any Government redistribution plan.

Its ok for Obama because it happened to Bush?

I thought Obama was supposed to be better then Bush?

Is Obama going to run on a positive vision of America? He's already lambasting the 1% (apparently not including him), you know the guys who create most of the jobs. Let's get one thing straight. Obama can't run on his shitty record. He has to change the subject, so instead of 'hope,' we get 'fairness.' OK, well, how about 'jobs, optimism, entrepreneurship, solvency'? He doesn't talk about those things because he's failed at improving the condition of each.

So you expect the Republicans to be positive. Well, they're not. As Daniels said last night, the state of the union is grave. We're ill and in no mood for visionary bullshit.

Why else does Obama need a billion dollar campaing war chest? Its going to take a lot of time and energy to run away from his record.

If you took a one hour Obama speech and removed the class warfare you would have nothing left. His class warfare rhetoric serves no one just hatred.
What exactly should successful people be ashamed of?
