What President Obama Thinks of his SOTU Audience
Posted by: 8th Grade ()

Either he thinks his audience and supporters are too dumb to understand anything above an 8th grade comprehension level, or his speech writers and he are incapable of writing above an 8th grade level.

Nope, sorry. My graduate degree from a top ranked university felt completely underutilized listening to his elementary level rhetoric. I actually felt like I was getting less intelligent listening to his speech. It was like I was transported back to Middle School and listening to school assembly speeches.

You aren't actually implying that his speech was anything more than at an 8th grade comprehension level, are you?

Nope, sorry. My graduate degree from University Of Phoenix
felt completely overwhelmed as I struggled to make sense of his speech. I actually felt less intelligent than most Alabamans listening to his speech, because I've been told I am. It was like I was transported back to Middle School and listening to school assembly speeches, which I liked better because they spoke slow enough for me to almost understand.

You aren't actually implying that his speech was
anything more than at my 8th grade comprehension level, are you?

Why yes, yes I am. And I fixed it for you.

Ohh, completely dismissing the obvious fact that the speech was either written by people with only an 8th grade writing level or was intentionally dumbed down to people with an 8th grade comprehension level. Which, given your responses here, derrr, it really is not a surprise. If you are the type of person that the speech writers intended to persuade, then writing it at an 8th grade level makes complete sense. IN fact, all of Obama's SOTUs have been at the 8th grade level which is 2 levels down than all his predecessors over the past 70 years.

You don't want to take my word for it? How about the good people at the University of Minnesota who have analyzed the past 70 SOTU speeches. Sorry, derrr, you have just revealed yourself to be only at the 8th grade comprehension level. Sucks to be you.

President Obama's 2012 State of the Union address again rated at an 8th grade comprehension level, on the Flesch-Kincaid readability test — the third lowest score of any State of the Union address since 1934.

The University of Minnesota's Smart Politics conducted an analysis on the last 70 State of the Union addresses and found that President Obama's three addresses have the lowest grade average of any modern president. "Obama's average grade-level score of 8.4 is more than two grades lower than the 10.7 grade average for the other 67 addresses written by his 12 predecessors," they conclude.

"The Flesch-Kincaid test is designed to assess the readability level of written text, with a formula that translates the score to a U.S. grade level. Longer sentences and sentences utilizing words with more syllables produce higher scores. Shorter sentences and sentences incorporating more monosyllabic words yield lower scores," the University of Minnesota's Eric Ostermeier explains.

the fact is, red states (i.e. conservative) have lower amounts of education and tend to be high in the number of obese citizens

The fact is that Obama's writers either write at am 8th grade level or geared their speech to their supporters who only comprehend at an 8th grade level.

That speech was aimed directly at his supporters. It was a political speech in every way aimed at motivating those that supported him in 2008. The fact that you didn't pick up on that very simple fact indicates that he was correct in aiming his speech at people with an 8th grade comprehnsion level.

It was AS IF I was transported back to
Middle School AND WAS FORCED TO listen to school assembly
> speeches.

Fixed it for ya,

Now, the President last night addressed every Hannity/Levin/Rush talking point made about him over the last year. Have you ever noticed Hannity/Levin/Rush all articulate their message at about a fourth grade comprehension level? (My fifth grade son was listening to Hannity on the radio a few weeks ago and said "that's illogical, it's called framing the argument.").

Listen to Gingrich or Romney; they communicate using almost no intellect.

"I believe in an America where millions of Americans believe in an America that’s the America millions of Americans believe in. That’s the America I love." Mitt Romney, last week.

In speaking to the masses effectively, you must articulate at a low intellectual level (no big words, no obscure comparisons, etc.) in order for your message to reach and be understood by the widest possible audience.

Most American newspapers are also written at an 8th grade
level. It makes sense for President Obama to give a speech using
language that is easily understood by the greatest number of viewers.

It's ironic that if President Obama's SOTU speech had been written
at a 12th grade level, you GOP-tards would be accusing him of elitism.

He got the memo that said arugula doesn't play well in the whole class warfare thing.

Nope, as you have yet to refute anything, it really doesn't.

Um, the dolt term is fitting here as it applies to you. A speech should be delivered so that most of the audience understands it. If you can't write above an 8th grade level, don't expect it to sound like it was intended for people who can watch and listen above an 8th grade level.

It is a good thing you are quitting. When you have been proven wrong, it really gives you nowhere else to go. Quitting here may have been the most intelligent move out of you yet.

Well, to be fair, if you were caught looking like a fool as many times as he has been, wouldn't you change your name all the time too?

He has yet to figure out the tell that another poster pointed out. When he posts, it is obvious.

Lol. Also to be fair, he doesn't realize that has happened since he lives in a fantasy world. I'm guessing hes either unemployed, has mental issues, or some combination of both.

The best part is how he registers most of the new names like that will hide that it's him.

He's appealing directly to the Democrat base, so 8th grade comprehension is probably way over their heads.
