can anyone tell me why? I'd just like to know. What exactly did I do?

The easy way to unplug the device from the wall and let the DHCP lease on your IP address expire. When you plug the device back in, it will automagically obtain a new obtain a new IP address from the DHCP server.
However, this can take several hours, and is not guaranteed to work. A faster way, if your device allows it, is disconnect from the your provider, clone the MAC address of your computer, then reconnect the device to the network. When you reconnect to your provider, the DHCP sever thinks it's a different device and assigns you a new IP address from its pool. (I've had to do this a few times when my scripts mistakenly trip Cary's security measures.)
The specifics will vary depending on the device you have.
I do not know how frequently Cary cleans up the list of banned IPs, or if he even does.
