The best Windows software.
ok, i have to be on Windows all the time for work and at my previous place of employment so being unsatisfied with Windows, i've collected a few utility programs (most are a single file and dont require intallers of any sort) that i have found to be fantastic. so i thought i would share and i encourage others to post their own favorites.
a lot of mine are listed on
http://www.tinyapps.org (a sweet site for utilities!). there may be other apps there you like.

Power Menu - a must!
it lets you do great things like minimize ANY window to the system tray and set any particular window to stay on top of other windows (very nifty!).

Resize Enable is that text entry window too small? NO LONGER! resize any window!

Cool Playerit's a small mp3 player that really only makes my list because it can also play streaming mp3 music.

GNU utilities for Win32 - for linux command line usersif you are a linux guy who likes the linux shell more than Windows' command line, this is for you! it has all the nice basics stuff like sh, ls, grep and wget. note: you will need to append the location of the exes to PATH environment variable.

WinSCP - not for everyoneit's a gui based scp program. SCP is a program that will let you transfer files over an ssh connection. if you dont know what ssh is, it's not for you.

Putty - again, not for eveyonePutty is quite possibly the best windows net tool there is. it does everything including ssh (my main use) to ssh port forwarding to X11 forwarding.

OpenSSH for Windows - one more, not for everyone as the name makes obvious, it's port of OpenSSH for Windows. the nice thing is you can run an SSH server so you can access your files anywhere using an SCP client (e.g. WinSCP) or a SFTP client (e.g. Putty).

Firefox - the best web browser i knowmany of you already know about this one but if you dont, give Firefox a try, it's more secure and faster then Internet Explorer. There is no long a reason to be afraid you could get infected by a website!

Pixel Image Editorthis one cost money but not too much. it's $44 for an image editor that i think is even better than photoshop. it's also for linux and mac OSX!

Web based EFNet Clientwhile not technically a program, if you are behind a firewall that blocks the common IRC ports, this web page is for you. now, if you want to access another network *cough*DALNet*cough*, you are a loser anyway so it doesnt matter
