I moved here for a job, and if the job market didn't suck everywhere else, I'd be out of here. I make a pretty good living here, but its just not worth it. I'd be happier elsewhere on 3/4's of my salary.

A very few of us are locals. Most are transplants and complainers. The transplants, either temporary or permanent have gotten so bad that in 3 years, after I retire I am leaving the area that my family has lived for 5 generations. So yes, the newbies are driving out another family.

Nova/DC is a great area. High paying jobs, wonderful restaurants and a lot of fun things to do. We also have two great airports to get you the fuck out fast when you need a break. This area is a hurried place. You need to be smart and hardworking to make it and still have fun. Life is what YOU make of it.

I love the FFU to complain and blow off steam. Cary has done us a great service to vent and then some.

I suggest you stay where you are. I can tell we would eat you alive.

I thought I'd move after retirement too but something I've learned
from others who have retired before me is that if you want to see
much of your kids, don't move more than 100 miles away. (good
advice I received at a pre-retirement seminar)

I hope my kids move out of state after college. We have their college funds already funded so we are lucky and hardworking. I want them to be out of debt right out college.

Now they are still in elementary school so we have a long way to go.

Fairfax is not for you, perhaps you check into Glen Burnie.
We are too populated currently. The area is being invaded by Koreans and
plenty of unsavory Mexicans and El Salvadorian day laborers that refuse to
contribute to society. You will probably feel poor the first months, but than you'll probably become a thousand dollar millionaire or be like the holier than tho foreigners!

Now please don't think everyone is a douche, there are some that are still nice.
But you won't meet them, so do yourself a favor and reconsider this area.

IT's a great area, but it suffers from a huge mix of people from all over. And ALL of them want the place to be like wherever they came from. It isn't. And thirty years ago, the planners had no idea the area would be so popular. It wasn't designed with this kind of growth, and so it shows. But we have everything here or within a couple hours drive. Hard to beat that.

Plus, we've got the jobs.

Not true. People care about the quality of life around here, especially when you are making money....it helps improve that standard.

You have to see Fairfax Underground for what it is worth....just some place on the Internet that has ulterior motives that have been revealed yet.

Maybe if you guys stopped inbreeding and denying science for a few minutes, companies wouldn't need to look outside the area to fill skilled labor positions. I mean come on, your post makes you sound stupid as hell.

We don't move here for fun, or because it is a particularly nice place to live. When some contractor is waving steady employment and a good paycheck in your face, it is hard to say no.

And it's not "carpetbagging" when a company pays you to move and take their job. Apparently the "talents" of locals aren't what these companies need.
