The US flag is a tacky dish rag
Posted by: Ellipsis ()

It lacks the elegance of the British and Scandinavian flags and the simplicity of the tricolours of the Continent among others. Rather, the multitude of stripes and stars reek of design by committee!

In lieu, a tricolour from left to right of red, white, and blue would be much more presentable. If the French complain, just adjust the shade of blue slightly, like the Luxembourgish did vis-a-vis the Dutch flag. What are your suggestions?

I concede the trivial nature of this matter, as switching the flag will not do anything to reverse the moribund status or terminal decline of the peoples' fortunes. Debt is about to approach 100% of GDP (if using the BLS GDP deflater; given how they fudge inflation data, it likely passed 100% long ago).

of English Bob in "The Unforgiven."

His anglophilic objections to American culture were patently petty and ridiculous.

Your instant objection falls into that category, which you acknowledge to some extent, in noting the triviality of your point.

Two further things may be noted.

To wit:

(i) De gustibus non disputandum est.

(ii) You are wrong. The American flag is an oustanding piece of graphic design, whether viewed as a merely abstract object, or as an emotion-charged symbol.

By contrast, the British flag evokes a false triumphalism, which was undergirded, at least, by the triumphs of the British crown in its glory days, but which is now merely pathetic or, at best, ironic.

The Scandinavian flag is a primitive work, that might have been conceived by a child. It is hardly worth discussing.

The cumbersome, blocky design of the French flag, alas, lacks panache. It is better suited to the garbage heap of history.

In the scheme of things, flags are not significant. I would much rather have a conservative set of books and an ugly flag than bankruptcy and a fine one.

(i) There being no accounting for taste notwithstanding, there are universal standards of design. DaVinci said it best - that the ultimate sophistication is simplicity. Any runt can spatter various things on a canvas, elegance emerges from sprezzatura and the arrangement of the few, so as not to insist upon itself.

(ii) Again, it reeks of committee by design. The patterns distract from one another.

Thus, you are of the mind that a country's regime must change its flag after it declines? If so, why would you oppose my proposals, as the US will do so in a few years?

The design of the Swedish flag was made for a golden cross seen by King Erix IX. The others followed. You seem to have confused primitivism with simplicity.

Yes, it lacks panache.
cumbersome (n.) large or heavy and therefore difficult to carry or use;
It is not cumbersome, if anything, it is the opposite by virtue of there being only three elements. Given the way socialist France is going, it may well find itself upon said garbage heap.

strictly speaking on the flag design itself, I have always thought the US flag is a bit busy and over complicated. I prefer the British Union Jack's looks over our flag any day.

The American flag was based on the flag of the East India Company; a fucking epic British corporation that literally invaded and defeated the entire empire of India (LMAO get shit on you 3rd world mongoloid slaves).

They also caused the American Revolution due to their tea traders getting special treatment from the British government.

Ever notice that the red diagonal cross on the British flag is off center?

Perhaps it is because it is one of the oldest flags in the west. Legend has it the Danish flag dates back to the thirteenth century.

It is more likely that they both sprang from a common English flag tradition. The idea of slapping the cross of St. George in the upper fly of a horizontally striped flag goes back to at least Tudor times (Henry VIII, Elizabeth I).

What if we just changed it to the Liberia flag so that it's not so busy? (I'm sure Liberia could find a new one)

The American flag rocks. It's a kick-ass design, world's best.

End of discussion.

It's elegant in it's simplicity. I mean just look at it. It says it all. Don't compare it with other flags, I mean that's stupid. Sure alot of other countries have flag's with a superfical prettiness but they resemble carnival flags that announce the circus behind it. No it's great. My heart jumps when I see it.

I did a google image search and they appear to be either solid in colour, or patterned. In that case, the US flag more closely resembles a circus flag than others.

I would advise seeing a cardiologist if that is the case.

Well if he didn't the cops would have, the Police don't tolerate misplaced flags. I once saw someone accidently fly the flag upside down, they came down like gang busters.

Regardless of the U.S. flag's appearance, it will be the 21st century's infamous symbol of betrayal and capitalist imperialism. The Stars and Stripes will replace the Nazi swastika as the most recognized symbol of genocide and ghoulish crimes against humanity. The time is imminent where the American flag will represent an event that will shock the world. Our Power Elites will cruelly euthanize the United States of America, Inc. in order to steal the cankered estate that rightly belongs to the American People!

For so many decades, our flag symbolized the illusion of freedom and promise of a better life. Yes, if a tick falls off a sick dog and emigrates onto a fat cow, it can be argued that the tick is enjoying a better life... UNTIL... the time comes for the cow to be slaughtered! Of course, nobody cares that the calf is being starved to defend the rights of the ticks!

The Elites who fed the American Cow, and told it how special it was, have now changed their tune and we're being frog marched into the slaughterhouse. No doubt, other animals in the barnyard knew of the slaughterhouse but, they were derided as Conspiracy Theorists!

The Power Elites just got done chasing a chicken around the yard named Muammar Gaddafi and lopped his head off for supper. Paris and London are cleaning and dressing the Libyan carcass so that Wall Street can stuff it full of derivatives before putting the Libyan people in the Debt Slavery oven. Everything you people are regurgitating and celebrating about the death of Gaddafi is based on blatant lies and propaganda. GADDAFI STEPPED DOWN FROM POWER IN 1977 and turned all political power over to the Jamahiriya. He was nothing but a titular head and chief consultant! If you fools knew anything, Gaddafi lived like a well-off Middle Class American; not like our Satanic plutocrats!

Libya was the healthiest African nation while Gaddafi kept the cancerous West out. Even the U.N. gave him accolades for all the material and civil progress that he had done. Libya went south when Gaddafi decided to make peace and opened Libya to the West in good faith. British MI6 wasted no time sabotaging and agitating certain tribes for future civil conflict. The first rate and debt-free economy of Libya was why Gaddafi was targeted for the banksters' supper. They had to murder him to satisfy esoteric legal reasons so Libyan assets could be fenced and to prevent any Nuremburg Trial from arising against the U.S, U.K, and E.U. for mass murder, war crimes without number, and assassination of a legitimate head of state.

At any rate, the entire world knows how vile and bestial the U.S. has become. Only children, fools, and Plastic Patriots who live in the past still believe in the threadbare myths of America. The stars and stripes is the flag of hypocrisy, betrayal, and capitalist imperialism.

Gaddafi was a human being, Goddamnit!!!!!!! Subject to the same foibles and faults as any other man. He was denied a fair trial and was a victim of an executioners bullet. By dening him and the others justice we lower ourselves to a barnyard system of law and procedure. The US has become the executioner of the world, the "Al Neri" of the Coleone empire.

Well said, Mong0Lloyd. In light of what you have said, I shall add an addendum to my initial post:

The tacky dish rag should not be changed until the current regime which plagues the people of this country and their fortunes has been toppled and confined to the compost heap of history.

On that happy day, I hope that they fly this tricolour.
