Anti-Depressant Use UP 400%

http://yourlife.usatoday.com/health/story/2011-10-19/CDC-Antidepressant-use-skyrocketed-in-past-20-years/50826442/1?loc=interstitialskip

The rate of antidepressant use among Americans of all ages increased nearly 400 percent over the last two decades, and 11 percent of Americans aged 12 and older now take antidepressant drugs, according to a federal government report released Wednesday.

How can this be a positive? ELEVEN FUCKING PERCENT of Americans over the age of 12 NOW TAKE ANTI-DEPRESSANTS?

Stupid motherfuckers are drugging themselves with the Solution DuJour, running from their problems and instead embracing happy pills.

We are really fucking proud of you Big Pharma.

With traditional intoxicants, at least there is no pretense of it being healthy or doctor approved.

The problem with all of the anti-depressant scripts being written is these stupid fucking consumers who think it is not effecting their brain chemistry/personality and that because a doctor presribed it- IT MUST BE GOOD.

Big Pharma gave us Valium, Thalidomide, Quaaludes and Oxycontin and told us they were OK too.

anti-depressants are effecting our brain chemistry/personality?

What is your opinion based on? Do you know anyone on anti-depressants?

Do you know anyone who has been so severely clinically depressed that that's

all that saved them??

You have no fucking idea what you're talking about.

I know plenty of people who use AD's regularly and few that are truly in need of it.

Is 11% of our population suicidal?

We live in a soft society where too many of these motherfuckers are coddled and expect life to be pain free.

Sorry, it isn't.

Yes Conie, that's why they are called psychotropics. As far as brain chemistry, read up on serotonin and how it affects energy levels and motivation.

Wingtwat usually doesn't. Doesn't stop his posting, though. Ignore the retard.

I do think a lot of the increase is the general pussification of America. However, depression/anxiety isn't as stigmatized nowadays, so people aren't as ashamed to ask for help when they need it... which is a good thing esp when it comes to one's mental health.

way.

Yup up 400% and those by in large worthless shrinks think it is still under prescribed.

I dated a girl who was taking anti-depressants and it was a nightmare. The meds always led to other problems (usually no libido) which led to more meds being prescribed that caused other problems (sleep apnea), which led to more meds.

The problem with anti-depressants is that they are often prescribed to people for years and years with no attempt by the user to ever resolve issues and get off the drugs. I could understand if they were used as a catalyst to jump start some kind of therapy process but instead I see a lot of users who heave been eating them like candy for years. Might as well just drink heavily or find some equally dangerous street drug you really prefer.

All of that shit dulls your senses and the use is circular. When one drug doesn't do it anymore, the patient goes to another- and the doctor is then attempting to diagnose someone who is already drugged and dealing with those side effects.

There are a few people who really need this shit, yes. But there are a lot of weak losers who are becoming wobbleheads when they shouldn't.

The worst thing "nature" ever did was to let us remove "natural selection" from the menu.

IMO, What the shrinks ignore is that often a person is depressed but not suicidal.
From listening to ads for anit-depressant drugs is a side effect of almost all of them is suicide. Yet they are handed out like candy.

How many depressed people who are NOT suicidal are prescribed anti-depressants, fail manage their medication correctly and become suicidal?

People just need to smoke a joint ocassionally...get some good head...rent a hooker...whatever it takes...and not further contribute to our medicated society.

Granted, there are some people out there pretty deep into it where maybe prescribed drugs are the only thing that will help. I believe those people are a fairly small percent of the population though.

Toughen up. Smoke a joint. Relax.
