The Italians have contributed a lot in the field of Motion Pictures. If you want to see some good old "neo realism" flicks I recommend the following:

1. Rome, open city
2. Fellini's Roma
3. Satyricon
4. Mafioso
5. Romeo and Juliet (1967)
6. The bicycle thief

good actors were Victorio Gassman, Anna Magnani, Sophia Loren,

best directors: Fellini and Rosselini

color Fellini is good
I really like Fellini in color movies
of course 8 1/2
Nights of Cabiria


what about Dario Argento
like Suspiria
Profundo Rosso (Deep Red)
Opera
lots of other ones

Mario Bava made interesting genre movies

Good ones include: Fellini's "Amarcord", Monicelli's "Big Deal on Madonna Street", Fellini's "Nights of Cabria" and Peter Sellars in "After the Fox".
