After a long and expensive republican Ad campaign, democrats voted yesterday to renew faith in their democratic governor and re-elect him. This is after the republicans poured millions of dollars into smear ads against the governor.

Charleston, WV, United States (AHN) – Democrats in the Mountain State Tuesday night held off a late surge in momentum from Republicans in the special election for governor.
Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will have another year in office, after narrowly beating back businessman Bill Maloney in one of this year’s most competitive races.

That's funny, because listening to Hannity's radio spew yesterday it was the Dems who were using dirty smears. I didn't follow the campaign. I just know how one-sided Hannity is.

I heard one of the republican Maloney ads the other day. It went something like this:
"Earl Ray Tomblin won't repeal Obamacare. Obama passed the law. Tomblin won't repeal Obamacare. Tomblin supports Obama. He stands with Obama....(just keep repeating Obama and Obamacare)" It was the most annoying ad ever.
The ads sounded like they were written by a third grader.

I would of thought that with median education level of the 7th grade, WV's would be voting republican.

A West Virginia Democrat is far different from a democrat you may find in places such as California and Connecticut. They are WAY more moderate than you would think.

Maybe you should read the article from HuffPo. It made it clear that quite a few Democrats were crossing over to vote for the Republican. The main reason it appears he was able to win was because they had a lot of folks use the "early voting" - likely getting their votes in before the ads had time to take effect - although clearly they had one.

It's a bog problem for republicans. A huge portion of their base relies heavily on the fed.
Those who may mouth of at their friends about government frustrations to save face are thinking differently in the privacy of a voting booth when confronted with loosing their benefits.
