Should Troy Davis die tomorrow or be spared.

Should convicted cop killer Troy Davis of Georgia be fried tomorrow. Or do the facts clearly indicate he should be granted clemency.

Ithink he should be spared, until they really get to the bottom of this. I hate the idea of an innocent dude taking the fall for someone else.

There's no physical evidence connecting Troy Davis to the crime. Seven out of nine of the witnesses recanted. Some other guy confessed to the crime.

My question is, what does it mean to live in a country that executes innocent people?

Troy Davis is not a good guy.

He shot one person, pistol-whipped a homeless guy, then shot a cop...dead.

If one believes in capital punishement then he certainly is a good target for it.

The state has no business executing citizens, I believe we and Japan are the only first-world countries that do. Life is the first-mentioned unalienable right listed in the Declaration. And I don't care about the cost of an inmate for life, if you remove the legal costs of endless appeals and not buy one predator drone that makes up for a few prisoners.

So no.

Yes, the state does have business in executing criminals. 1) It can serve as a great deterrent. And, 2) Killin' 'em is cheaper than keeping them on death row for the rest of their life.

Let the fluids flow.

I love #1, often repeated. Please link an interview with someone who says to the press "I only maimed the lady because I knew if I went ahead and killed her I'd be facing the death penalty instead of life in prison."

It isn't a deterrent any more than life in prison is.

I think killing YOU will be cheaper on me as a taxpayer because I won't be funding your sorry sick ass with Medicare when you are older. By your logic that means I should be able to put you to death.

So the witnesses recanted. At this point they have no dog in the fight so they dont care either way. Why not recant when doing so could get them instant fame.
This guy was no angel before all this happened. Myabe it is just karma.

BTW If you dont like this country go to Iran where if a woman opens her yap they pelt her with rocks.

Troy Davis is a innocent man, there is no solid proof he killed that cop, i believed its the crooked cops down there that had to point someone out, and of course it would be a black men. Never trust a cop. The macPhail family is the ones that will go to hell for wishing someones death.

They are about to execute some white redneck for killing a black guy in Texas does that make you feel better and erase part of your white guilt?

Tells me the system works! Equal justice under the law, Texas leads the way. If your guilty of a capital crime, and your convicted. Your going to have to pay, it is not about revenge. Revenge for what, the judge does not even know the guy, he just administers the Law, as it is written.

What else is there for them to do in jail? Either you find God, or you join one of the gangs and go around shanking people.

I wonder if they'll televise this execution? It would be nice if they offered such a thing on Pay Per View.

I agree with the above, as I hope it would lead to demand of death penalty abolishment in more states. I was very pro-death penalty until I saw an execution, and then it dawned on me how final and senseless it was and we as a society had no business doing it.

Update at 7:36 p.m. ET. A Temporary Delay:

The prison has temporarily delayed the execution, awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports:

Sara Totonchi of the Southern Center for Human Rights confirms the prison has temporarily delayed the execution while awaiting word from the U.S. Supreme Court on whether they can proceed with the execution tonight.

Update at 9:04 p.m. 'ET. Wait And Pray':

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that more than a dozen Georgia state police in riot gear have moved into the area outside of the prison. "They were met by choruses of 'Shame on you' from the protesters," reports the AJC.

The deed is done if he is innocent then i am sure whoever he prays too will be waiting with open arms. I think he's guilty. It is a shame that it took 21 years to get him strapped down waiting on the needle. Go Texas they are no joke when it comes to the death penalty. To bad the judicial system was not quicker.

If the death penalty was used more often it would be a good deterrent to crime. Maybe we should start cutting off hands like in the Middle East, but i guess that would fall into cruel and unusual punishment. People are against the death penalty until someone that they know are murdered, or raped then they are all for it. More power to sparky or poison in the hypodermic.

Patty M check your facts the media is claiming that 7 of 9 recanted. The truth is that only one did and he did so during the trial. The others said that they couldn't pick him out of a line up years after the murder.

With so many learned jurist looking at this case (both black and white by the way), and for all of them to come to the same conclusion proves one thing and proves it well. He is guilty. Look at it this way, one less cold bloodied kller in the world, we, laypeople, hear of some rumour that so and so recanted his/her testimony and we "all jump on the bandwagon" and say, "Wow, he must be innocent!" Wrong, Fucking Wrong. Too pat.

Al Sharpton was in the crowd protesting and if they spared Davis, Sharpton would say it was because of his presense and get all the credit.
