More GM Problems- Warranties Not Honored, Stock at All Time Low, Chevy Volt a FLOP

Bailouts are supposed to fix everything, right?

Wrong.

First related story, GM is trying to duck responsibilty for warranty repairs on the Chevy Impala because "the product was made by the OLD GM" and that the new post bankruptcy GM has no obligation to do so.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/19/gm-impala-lawsuit-idUSN1E77I0Z820110819

Even DingleBarry Obama assured consumers that old warranties would be honored-

Maybe the plan is to make the taxpayers pay again?

Second related story, GM stock hits a new low, hardly the comeback that Obama promised.

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090330/CARNEWS/903309977

Third related story, more on the Volt FLOP. Sold just over 100 units last month. A subsidized, taxpayer funded boondoggle. I've seen a grand total of ONE on the road since they came out. Has anyone seen one in the County?

Actually I did see a volt in Vienna a couple of weeks back. Kind of surprised me.

Hard to believe with as much money as we supposedly have in this area that we don't see more of them than Smart Cars (given how amazing the Volt was supposed to be and how it was going to be the flagship of our Green car revolution).

I saw a Tesla before I saw a Volt, I see many more Smart Cars and Priuses. I go to the shore almost every other weekend and probably log around 20K miles a year.

The Volt is not out there, maybe they're all in Marin County or Taos.

I've seen the Volt a couple of times.

It's one of those things that could come back to haunt the industry if it's killed off. It's obviously an early pioneer of a commercial all-electric vehicle. The Japanese government has been footing all the R&D costs for the Prius which are money-losers for each vehicle sold.

The Volt is a pathetic cartoon car that can't touch the elegant simplicity of GM's original EV-1. The EV-1 had far better range and looked better.

The entire auto industry is infiltrated by car haters and psychos who style cars the same way that anti-social teenage boys do. This "extreme" styling trend needs to die. How much more "extreme" can a car get? You either have rolling butt plugs, refrigerator shipping boxes on wheels, or some jack-off fantasy space fighter on wheels.

How about if GM dares to go the total opposite way? Resurrect the old early 1960's Chevy II sedan, put in a bulletproof electric drive with a 2-speed tranny, and whatever is the most efficient and reliable battery system. Technically, because an electric motor can go to 0 RPM, it can function with one gear ratio but, electric car performance can greatly improve with 2 or 3 gears.

I'll bet you could get 70 miles on one charge because it's simple and lightweight, it would be easy to maintain, and not look like Dylan Klebold's warped vision of a car.

The Volt is a joke. I remember those douchebags on NPR's Marketplace crowing about how great this car was going to be and how it would start the electric revolution, wrong, but what do you expect from a radio show that gets its economic advice from a loser like Robert Reich. When the market is ready to buy electric cars they will start to sell, no sooner. Subsidizing something nobody wants won't magically make people want it. But it's a good way for politicians to throw money at shit and increase their power in the process.

As for GM's management, they did what they were trained to do: suck up to the government to get free shit. And it worked. In a free market GM would be allowed to fail, but we have this wierd sort of half-socialist thing where government and industry suck each other off while we all pay for it.

+1

I saw the documentary on the EV-1, not sure if I bought it all but it was compelling.

GM should have been left to the markets, their problems were self-inflicted in their union benefits and their horrible products and marketing.

I am sure they would have been absorbed in part of whole by one of the other companies, Cadillac and Corvette would not have gone away and it would have increased market share and eventually the workforce for Ford and Toyota.

I am sure GM will be crying for another bailout again.

Is Gainesville considered the country? That's the only place that I recall seeing one ... and, maybe another around Fairfax, but that could have just been their Cruz from a distance.
