I've spent a lot of time down south(watch it) and Meade speaks with the accent of many a fancy lad gentleman of the south yet he grew up in Leesburg? which once upon a time might have been country but meade being 32? grew up during the great suburbanization of the leesburg area

so long winded question
why you talk with such a southern accent?

Because Leesburg is in the South, and thats how we talk down here. Besides, I moved to Richmond when I Was 18, and my family is from Southern Virginia, not Northern Virginia.

We walk the streets of Northern Virginia every day, we don't need people from Richmond/Powhatan to tell us what it's like. You people are annoying.

Well upstate New York is "country", but they dont have southern accents up there.
Its funny how since I moved here from Connecticut, you guys keep saying you dont have southern accents, but I hear them all the time, lol.

Pfft.

We don't sound like that.

He has a very slight Southern drawl.

Nobody I know has one.

Now, I'm not saying I dislike the Southern drawl.

It might not be the most intellectual sounding accent in the world... but I think it's very charming in its own way.

We have the boring "standard" American accent.

I've always found accents very interesting-

This guy certainly doesn't have a NOVA accent, a little too south-

not enough "boring standard American accent."

Here's a post I did on this topic a while back:

Accents of Virginia (and Fairfax)
http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/441159/441159.html#msg-441159

I saw this interesting entry from the "International Dialects of English Archive"
http://web.ku.edu/~idea/northamerica/usa/virginia/virginia.htm

Accents of Virginia-

Its quite a striking difference between the north and the south-

Compare the girl from Springfield from the one from Lynchburg-

Springfield-

Lynchburg
