GUNS - I say carry em everywhere
Posted by: JBass ()

So, I have seen politics go back and forth with a furry since I started visiting; abortions, jobs, stimulus, housing...

and I have noticed that quite a few of the regulars and even anons seem to go pro-gun without much dissent.

SO, I prose this... I think you should be allowed to carry your piece on all public property and transportation and on any private property open to the public that does not specifically forbid me to do so with clear signage.

Can't you already do that with Virginia's open cary laws, or am I missing something?

You can do that now. A lot of the places where concealed carry is not allowed you can open carry. Remember VA is an open carry state so just tuck your shirt in and strap a holster to your belt and you can carry just about anywhere. There are exceptions, like gov't buildings, but in most cases open carry is allowed. Will you attract attention and have people staring at you>? Yes but that's their problem, just go about your business and let them be "outraged".

Even so, if you plan on exercising your rights to open carry don't be surprised if someone calls the cops. A lot of people don't realize its perfectly legal.

Yes, Va's open carry law is a great and all but in reality, in order for a citizen to be effective at protecting themselves or the public, the element of surprise is a must.

I have a CCP but there are still many loopholes.

Concealed carry is for nerds. Act like a man and open-carry that shit.

Calling a CHP (or a PCCH) a CCP and a handgun a "piece" leads me to believe the CHP approval criteria are a little skimpy. I didn't used to think so until that post.

I don't see any reason to carry a gun and, frankly, haven't seen a reason even to OWN a gun in my entire life. Having said that, I do own an inherited pistol and see no reason NOT to own it (though I haven't fired it in, like, 40+ years).

But if that's what floats YOUR boat, go for it!

[And if I ever decide hiking across Yosemite sounds like a good idea you can BET I'm gonna be carrying something with major oomph to it!]

Interesting. Passive Agressive much? I used the term CCP (Concealed Carry Permit) to convey my point to as broad a group as possible. CCP is a generic term used to describe the carrying of a concealed weapon.

Virginia does not have a "concealed weapon" permit. You are correct, they offer a CHP, A Concealed Handgun Permit. I could have also used the term CCW, which is also a widely used term to describe the carrying of a concealed handgun.

Piece, Glock, firearm, please explain how my vernacular, while different from yours, makes me any less responsible to carry (RE: your comment [leads me to believe the CHP approval criteria are a little skimp])

Believe me, Open Carry is for nerds. The only guys I have EVER seen going Open Carry have been 350 lb suspender wearing, scanner-listening, boot-licking geeks.

I was actually open carrying, a few years ago before I received my CHP, in a gas station along Rolling Rd. I went to get some change out of my pocket and the gun made that harder to get to than normal. The guy behind me in line starts mouthing off saying stuff like "Nice gun, gonna use that on someone?", "You can't carry a gun in here." blah, blah, blah, I just ignored him until I tried to get that change out and he said "Don't let that gun get in the way". At that point I turned around and told him that it wasn't getting in the way and I demonstrated how my holster could slide around on my belt and I pulled my change out of my pocket and paid. He got extremely pissed off and starting mouthing off again about how I was carrying a gun. I just left and got in my car, on his way out of the gas station he was still going off about my carrying a gun. I laughed as I pulled away knowing that he would be all bent out of shape and pissed off for a couple hours, and he did it all to himself getting all worked up over something he knows nothing about.

Yes, the guy at the gunshop, the off-duty cop and some mustache-laden rednecks in Texas are exactly who I was talking about.

I was actually thinking the first pic was a restaurant which until recently you could only open carry in, the second certainly appears to be a park which until recently you could only open carry in, if you could carry at all. The third is definitely a group of people exercising their right to open carry at a political event or gathering. Those pictures prove nothing other than people open carry when they cannot conceal carry.

Most people who open carry when they don't have to do it for the attention they will get and the reaction from the gun haters.

The third pic looks like a group that just came from Starbucks. I understand, though I haven't personally seen it, that Starbucks extends a welcoming hand to open-carry folks on a regular basis.

False.

The first pic is at Fuddrucker's, NOT a gun shop, ya jackass.

Second is not of an off-duty cop.

And no one has a mustache in the third pic, or is a redneck, or in Texas.

JBeesh FAIL.

Prove that he is, jackass.

You're the one who made the claim on the basis of zero evidence.

Not a single redneck in the bunch.

But I agree that you're 100% FAIL!

That's called transference, PV, and it arises from your own neurosis rather than anything in the photos themselves.

I suggest you see your therapist and have that checked out.

I don't open carry or conceal carry although I do sport my NRA hat most days. However, I do appreciate those who do especially the open carry variety.

IMO The right to bare arms is a constitutional right. I believe it was put in to help keep the gov't more honest by reminding those elected into power that the citizenry has the means to revolt should the gov't become too oppressive.

So regardless of our disagreeance on CC vs. OC; you do agree that we should be able to carry anywhere we damn well please?

Carry a gun all you want. Just don't expect me to care for it. Whether it's your right or not, it my right to not have it around my kids.

If people want to carry pipe bombs or C4 that's fine with me too. Again, personally I don't care for it and I'd rather not have my kids around them. Yes, I know pipe bombs and C4 or perfectly safe when handle correctly and my kids are probably more protected by a person with C4.

"you do agree that we should be able to carry anywhere we damn well please"

There is much confusion on that. Many places now have the no weapons allowed signs. I dont think it is so much to keep gun owners out as it is to keep lawyers out.

Who will a lawyer go after if someguy making 50k a year pulls his gun out and shots at a robber but misses and hits an innocent person.
The lawyer will sue the store saying if the store had kept the gun carrying customer out it never would have happened. Of course this is extreme but if a lawyer can sue McDonalds for getting someone fat they will sue for this.

The store is where the money is and as with all things in life where there is money there are lawyers.

It depends on who did the reporting. While one news agency might describe it as a citizen protecting themself another would say it was a racist killing that needed a Federal civil rights investigation.
