Information Technology (IT)

Is Information Technology a good major? Will there be plenty of future jobs in the IT field? I'm thinking of switching to that from accounting. I just can't see myself as an accountant...

A dual major in accounting and IT could set you up for a very high paying
job.

The IT field is borderline over-saturated, especially in this area. If you're not an exceptional IT person, you may want to stick to accounting.

IT sees a huge amount of turnover and there are countless positions being filled everyday in this area. I dont see what the advantage of Accounting paired with IT would be unless you plan on doing accounting software development.

I would back up an IT systems degree with a business degree as this will afford you much more mobility. Also internships or a PT job in a related IT field will set you up nicely with a goode career when you graduate.

This. Get a business degree with an IT concentration and you can jump right into the beltway banditry.

None of the above. College is a giant vaccuum designed to suck every last cent one can borrow out of one's pockets.

OP - Take the money you would have spent, invest it, and learn a trade or do something you enjoy. I work barely 1hr/day as a proprietary investor and I did not take one class on that.

Is that the best you can do? I hate trading; it is quite stressful, but it pays the bills. I do not have many bills to pay, so I do not run in the proverbial hamster wheel longer than I must.

IT degree is pointless. If you want a real IT job, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is way more useful.

An IT degree is for people that can't handle the math and programming courses that comes with a computer science degree.

Thanks for the constructive criticism eesh - but being an imaginary internet doctor doesn't require a degree (which the OP was getting at) and doesn't pay the bills (which again the OP was wondering about)...perhaps try some reading comprehension next time.

I didn't write that, yet you credit me as posting that. I'm glad you are thinking of me constantly.

Though I have the Computer Science degrees and benefit from them, I'd totally disagree with your comment - there are plenty of jobs around, such as system admin, that don't require anything close to a Computer Science degree - anIT degree, even 2year IT degree, works fine for that (and many others).

Sure, but you could also easily get a sysadmin job with no degree. My point was that EE or CS will help you get skills to make you a truly excellent IT professional, which is not to say you couldn't be a truly excellent IT professional without a degree. An IT degree will pretty much just get you a piece of paper.
