TEA Party Violence

Republican lawmaker in Arizona resigns due to violent death-threats coming from the TEA Party. This is sad. Do we have our own Palin-led Taliban brewing in our country?

How much violence from TEA Party rage is too much?

One would hope to hear from John McCain on this issue, since Miller was an active campaigner for him vs. the TEA party candidate Heyward.

I hate the Alaskan bimbo, but I don't see her trying to institute Sharia law anywhere, do you?

If you look into the story more, it is clear the district has been in turmoil for quite a while, and not just from Tea Party issues. This guy Williams had a number of reasons to resign - this just ended up being an excuse too good to pass up. Plus with redistricting next year it is looking like his district is going to be re-aligned quite a bit.

There is a large group of Hispanics in the Republican party out there, and the entire state has a large on-going issue with Latinos (Sheriff Joe, etc.). The last election between McCain and JD Hayworth was evidently pretty ugly out there as well, and within the state there is a lot of political contention on the Republican side. Perhaps the Tea Party folks in Arizona are more over the top then others? Always possible since they are only loosely affiliated groups in any case.

And this is good - shows the clear way stories get twisted when another news agency rehashes a report:

Gabrielle Giffords' Arizona shooting prompts resignations

...The newly-elected Dist. 20 Republican secretary, Sophia Johnson of Ahwatukee, first vice chairman Roger Dickinson of Tempe and Jeff Kolb, the former district spokesman from Ahwatukee, also quit. "This singular focus on 'getting' Anthony (Miller) was one of the main reasons I chose to resign," Kolb said in an e-mail to another party activist. Kolb confirmed the contents of the e-mail to the Republic...

(False - in the original article it never said this)
