One has to wonder why someone would name a store BJs. I mean its not like it is a adult toy superstore. God imagine that 210,000 sq feet of adult toys, videos, etc

BJ stands for Beverly Jean, the daughter of one of the founders.

I go to both and like them for different reasons. Costco is closer so we go there more. Costco's coffee, paper towels, TP and meat (taste, quality and price) are awesome. BJ's has other items like spices, canned and packaged goods that Costco doesn't have that I really like. The also have propane for a great price and I like the regular milk jugs at BJ's.
If I had to choose only one it would Costco. Mainly for their coffee and meat. I do hate the new style milk jugs though.

I would have thought that it stood for Berkley & Jensen, the house brand.
Presonally, I prefer shopping at Bj's. Not so many schmuck's blocking the aisles to get free food samples...course, that could be because BJ's gives out samples occasionally, not constantly and in multiple booths. There are people near the Costco stores that go there for their lunch breaks, and only eat the free samples for lunch. In Newington, there was this group of 6 guys moving through the store doing this.
BJ's also still sells Shendandoah's Pride milk. Costco gets their milk from Ohio, and I hate the square milk containers. But even if I didn't, I wouldn't buy milk there. They leave the pallets out on the floor in the open for hours at a time. Came by one day and four people were returning bad milk.
