What are you drinking Friday? Anything special? I'm thinking about trying this expensive merlot I got for Christmas...I'm more of a liquor guy though.

Boilo. If you're a liquor guy you might enjoy this Lithuanian holiday drink

I mostly drink beer, but when midnight rolls around I'm gonna pop open the bottle of Montaudon Brut I've had sitting around, and I'll probably drink the whole thing.

We have some sparkling wine in the garage. I might dab into that as well. Good thing I'll have some solid football to watch on Saturday, because I'm going to be feeling like hell.

Boilo is a big PA thing, especially up in the Coal Regions. From what I remember, it was basically whiskey heated up with oranges, cinammon, and raisins in it, maybe some other fruit. I'm sure every coal cracker from Scranton to Pottsville has their own Boilo recipe that's better than everyone else's.

I can't believe "Boilo" actually even came up on this forum. That's some hardcore PA right there.

I actually want to try this "Boilo". I have a feeling it's an acquired taste, but it sounds like a perfect winter drink.

Most likely, I'll be drinking beer or Southern Comfort if I go the liquor route.

Soco and Dr. Pepper is a pleasant drink. And I don't like Dr. Pepper by itself. That whole soco with a lime phase was so played out. I wasn't a big fan.

Plenty of Boilo recipes out there on the web.

Basically squeeze a bunch of oranges and lemons into a pot, and then throw in some lemon and orange pieces. Throw in a handful of raisins, a cup of honey, sugar, and cinnamon sticks. Simmer it for a 1/2 hour, remove from heat, then stir in 100 proof whiskey. Serve it hot in shot glasses and sip away.

SoCo and Mountain Dew or Mellow Yellow is really good. It's almost too sugary sweet, but very tasty.

I've had it that way too. Yeah, Mountain Dew with anything always seems too sweet.

Over Christmas I tried a couple bottles of the Infinium beer/champagne from Sam Adam

I am normally a beer purist, but this stuff was very good. It was surprisingly dry for being made from hops and malt. Kind of like a very crisp Belgian white, but very clean and bubbly,

Even all the ladies liked it,

It was $20 a bottle at Wegmans, but I can get it cheaper from Total Beverage, I will pick up 4 or 5 to replace the normal champagne toast.

I'm having lemonade.

Might splurge and have some Tostitos or Doritos with it.

If we get totally crazy I can imagine actually popping some uWave popcorn.

Yum.

I usually have Champagne, but two years ago I must've had about a dozen different types of drinks at a party. Damn, I was buzzed for ten hours straight, and my friend was puking his guts out before he passed out. Best party ever!

Yup that sounds about right.

One twist the Lithuanian side of family added: they would buy the worst whiskey they could find (like Old Crow) and put it in a jar with ginger roots and let it sit outside from June until Dec. Then they did pretty much every thing else you mention. Also- they would make it in a percolating pot instead of regular pot.

Best of luck with your Boilo Stinkfist! Enjoy! Cheers! Na zdrowie! and I sveikas!

That's the way it's done. To me, it makes no sense to buy pricier high-quality whiskey. You're going to be mixing it with alot of citrus and spice, no reason to waste money on quality you won't be tasting anyway. Find the cheap stuff. When I was growing up, it seemed like all the older people up there kept a big plastic bottle of Bankers Club Whiskey on hand. The shit is rank. But it was probably 7 or 8 bucks a bottle and was fine as a mixer.

I bought Makers Mark, as I doubt I'll want more than two of these Boilo drinks. I think guests will try 1-2 and then switch to other stuff too. It sounds like it may be too sweet to drink all night.

We had a fucking awsome time. All runs open...Anywhere from 2 to 4 feet of snow base. It was rather warm there yesterday, and the rain today was sucky on the skating rink.
