Are highly creative people rare?
Posted by: Robert ()
Date: September 06, 2007 03:24PM

My Dr. told me he thinks highly creative people are rare. Do you believe this is true? I think everyone has creativity in them, but it does seem more often than not, most people by nature are not all that creative.

Highly creative people seem to be a small percentage of our population. Most people prefer more practical and pragmatic things like Sports, or going into very conventional professions.

Discuss.

Robert, your doctor's right. Highly creative people are a smaller number of the population. Check Myers-Briggs. Many supervisors and managers do not know how to work with highly creative folks.

Then why do most managers and supervisors consistently encourage their employees to think outside the box? They may not know how to work with them, but they sure do want them...

I don't feel that "highly creative" people are rare at all. I just think that most people are so self absorbed, that they are unable to see the creativity in the people they surround themselves with.

We are all creative in our own ways, whether with written words, using our imaginations, or being innovative thinkers to name a few of the less obvious outlets for creativity. Those who are artistically, musically, verbally or socially creative (to name a few of the more common arenas for that personality trait) just have a more OBVIOUS way of being recognized.

Creativity is one aspect of humans that seperates us from all other animals. We improvise on a daily basis. be it how we park our cars, solve problems or MOCK MEADE SKELTON/robert/musicLoverVA.

No, he just told you that so you wouldn't feel bad.

The problem is in real life they usually don't. And when they do they either don't really mean it (just looking to offload thinking onto the troops) or throw up roadblocks to innovation. Some organizations are different, I just haven't had a whole lot of luck finding them. Probably because throughout my career I have worked for older military retirees that are used to set procedures even if they logically conclude in failure.

"think outside the box" Ha, ha . Thats actually a term that is a misnomer.

Most people who claim to think outside the box, don't do so at all.

Highly Creative people seem to always be outside it in the first place.

Meade, I have to ask why don't you post on a Richmond board? Very strange you always post here but reside in the armpit of Virginia known as Richmond.

Also I will not debate the plus or minus of Richmond as one look out a car window as you pass it on 95 tells you all you need to know.

Hmmmm - I thought you had some intelligence but alas...

A misnomer is a term which suggests an interpretation known not to be true. If this is the case, and you believe that "thinking outside of the box" is a misnomer, your last statement is idiotic! So much for having an insightful dialogue with you...

does anyone else find it difficult to take a boarder seriously when they're constantly ending sentences with an exclamation mark. It's like when you're reading the message, and you get to that "!" at the end, you're just like, meh, calm down, dont yell at me. Don't sound so excited is what i'm trying to say and that will result in greater respect.

You may want to think about placing a ? at the end of a question though...

I sometimes dont end my questions with question marks because it gives the words a bit more authority. Like you're not really asking a question, but more making a statement.

Do you get it now

And exactly what color is the sky in your world? Your understanding of how others interpret your writing is completely wrong, but I really like the fact that you tried to justify your lack of knowledge regarding use of proper punctuation.

That's thinking outside of the box for sure.

Passing Richmond on 1-95 does not give them any remote idea about Richmond. If I took Richmond from what I saw on the interstate, I would be just as ignorant as you.

It doesnt get any better if you exit into Richmnd off 95. I had to spend a three week training class there and saw just about every part of Richmond there was to see. It just plain sucks. Dirty, nasty and why the hell dont they tear down the buildings that are abandoned.

They leave the abandoned buildings up so homeless folk have someplace to live.

Our hearts and prayers go out to you. Sorry you had to experience Richmond. It's times like that you find out who your true friends are. Richmond in no way shape or form is example of cities in Virginia.

I know that emotional scars from such an event can linger for years. Once again, Sorry you had to experience Richmond.

Richmond has stuninng architecture unlike some places- it has character and a soul. Its very distinctive and charming. On the same level as Charleston or Savannah in its grace and beauty.

Actually, linear left brained people might believe in evolution. Highly creative people would seek out alternative views to such and antiquated theory.

I think they are. For example: When the best web hosting in Nigeria, https://aonservers.com was launched, people think the site is cool, how are they going to beat top platforms. You know what, those people that argued or doubt them are still the ones using their service.

The owner knew what he was doing. He built an amazing web hosting site that does not only attract users but gives them top-notch services.

Such kind of person is indeed rare to find.
