It's some sort of synth (NO SHIT, MEPHISTO), but it's run through some sort of filter (like "Fruity Filter" in Fruity Loops). It's definitely not a string.

It could also be a bass patch several octaves high. Taking a low patch and making it high (and vice versa for high patches) produces interesting results sometime.

Mr. Misery, make a list of everyone that cares about you in real life. Then make a list of all your proud accomplishments in life. Finally, make a list of everything you've done to make the world a better place....

You will notice that all three lists are blank.....now jump off a bridge.

You just regurgitated what Mephisto had already said with more verbiage; that's all. Mephisto has used Fruity Loops in his music career, I guess now the Hoffmann is a musician too, huh?

You're right. I didn't say anything stupid.

> Your "contribution" was vague and ill-explained.

Because "high pass" and "low pass" are the only filters available in Fruity Loops, right? Oh, wait. No, that's not right at all.

In addition to the filter options available in the attached pictures, several of the EQ effects will produce a "filtered" effect as well. My answer was "vague" because of how many different filtering options there are. You thought my answer was "ill-explained" because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

> You also suggested that there was a pitch-shifting

Of course you don't believe it was involved, because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I didn't say "pitch shifting." I said, "it could be a bass patch several octaves higher." You don't understand the difference because you don't use the program, and because you're a moron that's trying to pretend like you know everything.

I'm sure Mr. Blisters can look up "filter" on Wikipedia, too.

Clearly.

I'll make a deal with you; I won't pretend like I know something about writing a shitty blog or inserting smileys and black dildos into my message board posts, and you don't pretend like you know something about writing music. OK?

Blisters, to illustrate my point about programming a bass patch a few octaves up...

Here's a clip from a work in progress. The higher synth melody is a blend of two bass patches programmed four or five octaves higher than one would normally use a bass patch, and run through a couple different effects. I think I could use that method to produce a sound similar to what you're looking for.
