A Setback, Not a Defeat

Here is a thread for you to post the most inane interpretations of this year's election results.

Here is one to get the ball rolling:

"Conservatives believe in freedom for the corporate sector, in limiting what the federal government does and in tax cuts for the best-off. Progressives believe in a government that promotes modestly more equality, regulates business in the public interest and sees public action as promoting American competitiveness. This election didn't change that. It is a setback for progressives, not a permanent defeat. They took real losses but held their own in the Senate and in key governors' races. The real showdown takes place in two years - and with the electorate equally disapproving of both Republicans and Democrats, that battle is wide open."

It's more a repudiaiton of the OBama agenda than anything else. Even though the Repubs didn't take control of the Senate they certainly made significant progress.

The results can and will be spun every which way depending on who is talking and to whom.

there is one thing though, the Repubs better not take this election as a mandate that they can do whatever they want or they will be out on their ear in 2 years.

All in all, it's probably healthy to send a wake up call to all those politicians. That is if they are smart enough to heed it.

We must nominate the President Himself. Americans don't hate what we did; we just didn't get them to listen properly. We'll do better with our propaganda next time:

“I think that’s a fair argument. I think that, over the course of two years we were so busy and so focused on getting a bunch of stuff done that, we stopped paying attention to the fact that leadership isn’t just legislation. That it’s a matter of persuading people. And giving them confidence and bringing them together. And setting a tone,†Mr. Obama told 60 Minutes’ Steve Kroft in an exclusive interview set to air Sunday.

Yes, the President really said that.

It's been noted by more than one corporation during the past week that if the U.S. doesn't come up with some sort of corporate tax relief, they're going to take the money they're sitting on and invest it in other countries.

It would be sad that our government would be so ignorant to let this happen. Sure, the corporations are holding the feet of our government to the fire, but if you look at the ramifications, this could become big, real big - if one company starts it and others follow.

"Democrats didn't lose because Republicans are suddenly popular, or people embrace their agenda," he says. "Democrats lost because people are angry and desperate and flailing and had to punish someone for the nation's economic woes. There's little there for the GOP to build on." Mr. Kos, whose mother knows him as Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, celebrates the ethnic cleansing that all but banished white Southerners and Blue Dogs from the Democratic party. "It's hard to argue that the Dems should move [to the] right … we can focus on the important thing, and that's beating back [John] Boehner … and the crazed teabaggers that have taken over the GOP."

His first order of business would be to bring back Howard Dean, not necessarily kicking but surely screaming, to run the Democratic National Committee and plot comeback strategy for 2012. Harry Reid would continue as Mr. Obama's go-fer and Nancy Pelosi would be the gift that keeps on giving.

I have noticed that the word 'shellacking' is being heavily utilized in various news mediums, thanks to Obama I guess. I read it in a sports article last week, as well as in a Letter to Penthouse.

In the first letter yes, it was a facial shellacking but a second one stated that "I shellacked her ass with my huge slathering cock".
