Paying cash

What's with all the people in checkout lines paying cash for stuffs??? WTF??? Just swipe the *&%*& credit card instead of holding up the lines counting bills and coins to pay. It takes 2-3 times as long to get through the line paying cash..Just pay the balance off at the end of the month if you don't want to incur finance charges.

Some people like to use cash because they think they will spend more money if they use a credit card.

I know exactly how much is in my bank account when I take cash out, and when I need to get more I can look at the date on the receipt and think "What did I spend that money on?" and it makes me take a second to consider whether those were good reasons to spend or not. It's kind of a mini-audit I guess.

Of all the things I deal with in a given day....of all the things I must contend with in my life on an ongoing basis...giving a fuck about whether the person in line in front of me at Giant uses cash or credit isn't one of them.

Grow the fuck up.

I'm thinking the OP also counts items of the people in front of him at the express lanes. People who are concerned about minor inconveniences need to de-stress.

BooHoo The world doesn't jump for you. Welcome to adulthood. Fuck you. Wait until you are behind the coupon bitches with rugrats. Wait until you are behind the self checkouts waiting for some bitch with a cartload of groceries taking her good sweet time. Wait until you finally get to your car and some bitch has her doors open wide so see can put her fucking brat in the backseat.

I have to disagree with swiping the card always being quicker. I've seen some people take forever to get the card swiping to work. They should just whip out some cash and move on.

Yeah, like the people with worn out strips that totally stress out by the third swipe.

Sounds like we have a lot of selfish people in this world. "My time is more important than your desire to pay with cash." "My time is more important than your kids." Quite a few of you could use some perspective.

Not selfish, just don't understand why people can't use technology to make their lives and the lives of the people around them simpler and more efficient!

Many other people have very different priorities than you and I. I certainly agree with you that cards are far more convenient. But some people value privacy, budget, or some other unknown factor over the convenience and speed you and I value so much.

I'm particularly annoyed at comments about kids. It would be hard to believe it's from people who have children themselves.

Well, so what? People who don't have kids don't want to be inconvenienced by people that have them. Is there something incomprehensible about that? I bet many people with kids don't want to be inconvenienced by your kids either. A lot of people with kids often seem to have this attitude that everyone else around them should go out of their way to accommodate them and their children and "understand how hard it is." Meanwhile they don't have to do anything but give you a look like "I know how terrible this is but what can I do I'm so flustered oh my God help me and give me credit for how hard I'm trying even though I'm doing nothing to address their behavior and feel sorry for me me MEEEEEEEE!"

You overstate yourself. We don't expect others to accommodate us. My point is that those who have children generally (not always) have no idea how valuable they are to those of us who do have them. Thus we have absolutely no qualms about prioritizing their health, safety, and happiness over your convenience. Without apology. And that's a perfectly reasonable conclusion. Now that I have children and know how important they are to those who have them, I am much more patient with others when their children cause me slight inconvenience.

And what kind of entitlement do you have that you think you have some kind of God-given right to demand I hurry up and put my child in a car more quickly, or move out of your way just because it's convenient for you? What of MY convenience and MY priorities? Now that's entitlement if you ask me.

I use a credit card for almost everything but don't have a problem with people paying cash as long as they're being quick about it (not counting out a whole bunch of change, etc.) What does annoy me are people who write checks at the store. It almost always takes longer than necessary and I wish stores would stop accepting such an antiquated form of payment. Who the heck walks around with their checkbook?

Glad you love your kids, but get the fuck out of my way. If I wanted to deal with children I'd have them. You seem to have the sense of entitlement just because your dna didn't drip out.

I agree about checkbooks. I was shopping on a military base a few years back, and buying anything at the exchange or the commissary took forever because all the low-income military wives were writing checks, and the cashier had to validate it over the phone while the rest of us waited!

As for kids, what do they have to do with this discussion? Just get them out of the way, duct-tape their screaming pieholes and make sure I don't have to bother with them.

Yep, paying with checks is the same as counting change to pay!! There are so many benefits to paying by credit cards if you pay them off monthly...including cash back. I get around 1k/yr back by just using credit cards.

I've worked behind the register before and that's one of the reasons why
I use cash for most transactions. Okay, you've got some joker who wants to
write a check for $1.98. No can do. ($15.00 minimum) Now he/she hands me
a debit/credit card that doesn't work. Backup card doesn't work either. He/she
leaves the merchandise on the counter and walks out saying they'll be back.
Probably not. When I pay for something I count the cash out before I get
to the clerk. Something that drove me up a wall when I was behind the
register are people who wait until the sale is rang up before they open
their wallet or purse. Oops! Can't find anything in this shopping bag sized
purse. Oh, and be sure to put your kid with a shitty diaper on the conveyor
belt while you're doing this so I will have to explain to you that it's
dangerous and against store policy. BTW, I also only speak one language and I
don't give a damn how you say it in East Bonga Bongese. NEXT!

I pay cash every now and then and don't use my "discount card" just to keep computers from consistently tracking what I'm buying.

In my case I'd say the cash is quicker at most places then waiting for the card authorization. I hand over the cash, the clerk puts the money in the drawer and then the silver change pops out of the change machine right in front of me. I grab the silver and the bag at the same time and I'm gone.

+1, Express is express. Have the cash ready or have a working card. These people who use their card and it comes up not enough... You can spot them a mile away before they swipe their cards.

Why? There's nothing devious about supermarkets tracking spending trends.

the store already knows what they sell. they dont need each individuals buying habits along with their name, address and phone number.
