Imagine being so poor that “inflation” and “recession” impact you

I’ve lived through two recessions and supposedly high inflation. What do these things even mean? I have never been impacted by either of them. They are just terms the media throws around to scare people. If you have to change your spending habits because of either, you’ve made very poor life choices.
