As this post is off-topic, I'm wondering if he even called the right phone number to talk to whoever he talked to.

edit to add: and it isn't like it is hard to get a phone unlocked. If your account has been in good standing for a number of months, email the provider and tell them you need to use your phone on an overseas trip you are planning and would like the codes that let you use a foreign SIM. You'll have it in a day or two. If that doesn't work out, eBay has plenty of people selling unlock services.

Hey, I got a cell phone question.

I got a new phone from Verizon for the heck of it...the old one worked fine.

A friend's cash strapped daughter lost her Verizon phone. If I give her my old one, can she take it in and get it re-activated and save a few bucks?

As long as the old phone supports e911 they'll activate it. There may be a $20 charge but that's better than buying a new phone. Your friend may be able to activate it online in place of the lost phone.

The old phone (LG VX-4650) is only a tad less than 2 years old and I could have kept using it.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Verizon tightened their activations so that they now only activate Verizon-branded CDMA phones that support e911/GPS.

No, not all cell phones are e911 capable. e911 has nothing to do with the ability to call 911. It has to do with location-based info broadcast from the phone so they know where you are when you call.

Google replacement cellphones and you will find sellers of referbed unit for as low as $29.00

Don't let At&t, Verizon etc. extend your contract when you need a new phone.

I have another question about Verizon cellphones. Is there any place where you can buy them, other than Verizon stores? I know Walmart, but they only have shitty models. There's gotta be a way to get slightly outdated models or something.

inkadouche, I don't have any problem with the above. In fact it just better documents what I told you. If you had looked it up and pasted that in four posts ago instead of "Verizon activates all CDMA phones" then you wouldn't be so angry with yourself.

When do you go away to jail again?

Radio Shack used to carry a slightly different line than Verizon stores, but they no longer sell Verizon. Best bet is probably eBay, where there are lots of new and used phones.

Remember you almost got banned once before. If you don't act nicer, it could happen again.
What does unlocking a cell phone mean?

I just got a new phone. It's called a Sync and Samsung makes it.

Unlocking it would mean you can take a little circuit-board card called a SIM from another carrier like T-Mobile and put it in your AT&T/Cingular phone and it would work on T-Mobile. If you take off the battery cover on the Sync and remove the battery you will see the SIM underneath it. It should be a small piece of plastic with either Cingular or AT&T on it (I don't believe T-Mobile carries the Sync).

When you buy phones new from AT&T and T-Mobile they are set up to use only SIMs from their own companies (i.e. "locked"). This is a problem if you want to use your phone on another carrier, or maybe go overseas and get a prepaid account there because the phone wouldn't work without the "unlock" procedure.

Yeah, I know. The different network is why the AT&T/Sprint versions of the KRZR have a 2 megapixel camera instead of the 1.3 megapixel camera in the Verizon version.

A lot of those cell towers are owned by third parties.

when you buy a cell phone from a carrier like AT&T, Verison, Sprint, Nextel or whoever, the cell phone is programmed to ONLY work with their network. this means that if you take your phone to a different carrier, it just wont work. this is put in place so that you cant take and use your Verison phone when you switch to AT&T. this "lock" is artificial as it can be removed so that you can use your cell phone (they act like they own it) with any carrier you want. this restriction can be removed (aka unlocked) and allow you to use it with carrier you want.

people are all up in arms that the iPhone from Apple is locked to only work with AT&T as the two signed a deal and mucho cash was exchanged.

perhaps the repeaters are more intelligent than you think. cell phone companies REALLY dont want to share their networks. the bottom line is i dont know but i think they just dont want you to use it rather than your phone is unable to use it.

Gravis is just wrong, I don't know how else to say it. The frequencies used and the transmission tech are totally different issues. It's like saying all Mac OSX progs and Windows progs are now interchangeable because Apple moved to Intel processors.

Gravis, if you think you are right then name the phones like challenged you to do before. You can't use a CDMA phone on a GSM carrier's network and vis versa unless the phone was built to handle both.

And Gravis pulled the list from GSMWorld.com, a site focused on GSM mobile technologies. You'll notice Verizon and Sprint aren't on the list. CDMA carriers use 850 and 1900MHz in the US, but that doesn't make them compatible with GSM carriers.

Please, a career in dish washing is something he could only dream about. He's just not as smart as your typical illegal immigrant, so he'll never be able to compete for those jobs.

So let me guess how inkahootz will respond... he'll either weakly insult my girlfriend, call me a pussy while challenging me to meet for a fight, question my sexuality, or "mystery meat", where he just has one of his childlike meltdowns.

i technically did fulfill your challenge, AT&T/T-Mobile are compatible with Alltel as it's listed as GSM compatible.... but ill honor true nature of the challenge...

BlackBerry
Treo_650
Motorola SLVR L7

i forgot to include that you can find lots of different phones like this if you search GSM CDMA on ebay with "search descriptions" enabled. there are a lot of different phones that are "world phones."

Gravis, again you are wrong. You are citing models that have different manufacturing builds for GSM and CDMA. The GSM SLVR L7 is a GSM phone and will not work on Verizon's network. Motorola released a version of the SLVR, the L7c, that works on CDMA networks but _not_ GSM networks. The others you cite, Blackberries and Treos, have GSM versions and CDMA versions.

You didn't meet the challenge. Provide three links to phones on a single GSM carrier's website to three separate phones in that carrier's current lineup that work on a CDMA carrier's network. I'm not disputing that CDMA/GSM hybrid phones exist, but carriers usually only carry one (which is why I said name three). You said all phones produced since the late 90's will work on any network, which is ridiculous.

I never made a reference regarding your sexuality, because I know you are gay! SO am I! However, if you insist, you and your gay lover Pgenhead can go have fun
down at those gay clubs. I will however, be jealous its his mouth and not mine sucking your cock.
As far as my dishwasher education: I was taking it up the pooper by some hot Johns Hopkins student. I got HIV in seventh grade. While attending The Potomac School in Mclean ( you may have heard of it considering, John Kerry, the Heinz bros., and R.F.K.'s daughter, Rory, a highly acclaimed documentary film maker, all went there among many others) I was rimming my English teacher.Shrimping too. In addition to Potomac, I attended George Mason U. and film school. I blew my way through both of them. I am a bottom at heart, and have ben over for several people you would consider to be subhuman.
The botom line is, I am a flaming faggot and I will blw anyone under the plasma .

I knew it...this thread is too much for you isn't it ya?

GSM, CDMA, TDMA, you can't post because you don't know what any of it is..
Cell phone locked - unlocked...you have no clue...

You want to be able to post so bad, but you have nothing to say because so far the discussion is too technical and you have not been able to form any intelligent thoughts pertaining to the topic.

You could not participate in Restonpiece and inkahootz's argument - that was between the two of them - so you are lost.

Well, I feel sorry for you so here you go...

Now participate, now post...as the only things you seem to be able to post are rude, cruel, and obnoxius statements...

Come on everyone, don't be so hard on poor little "ya".

I find value in all of his comments and commentary that he posts on this message board.

Everyone should take a step back and really look at the contributions that "ya" has given to this board, and to the world in general... Think deeply about all that he has to give.... breathy deeply.... and be very happy that he/she is not related to you!

Ya, why do you talk about homosexuality and butt raping so much? Are you jealous about me going to jail, because of all the potential man on man sex you are going to be missing out on? I guess Freud was right, and ya is jealous because he wishes he could in jail and not have to compete w/ females for those bad little boys in the 'penal' system!!!
