I didn't think the film was particularly anti-semitic. I think it was more of a reaction to historic passion plays than to what was in the film. However, I thought Gibson's defense was kind of bogus. He defended the film by saying it was true to the Gospels, but then it had the story of Veronica's Veil, which was not in the Gospels.

Gibson is gone because he hadn't made any money for the agency since The Passion. If he was breaking the box office with Lethal Weapons movies, he would still have an agent.
