Enthusiasts in California and in Washington should act fast if they want to put a new Chevrolet Camaro SS or ZL1 in their garage. Both models are now illegal in those states due to the percentage of copper in their brake pads.
A lot of cars are illegal in the US. You can't own anything over a certain horsepower or without pollution control devices.

They should do what Alabama and WV do. Just let all the waste be dumped into streams and rivers. Or burn it. THat's why you don't want to drink or swim in WV.

what exactly is the horsepower limit and what is the law about pollution control devices
I will say, the first generation catalytic converters where a joke as far as flow rates go and they often failed. But by the the 90s it was very easy to make 400 horses while retaining all of the functionality of the emissions system. The 2nd generation cats are why Los Angeles no longer has smog alerts. Emission controls are a good thing and have not been a detriment to performance in 20-25 years.
