You would think that BMW would want skilled drivers to buy and drive their cars. It would be way better advertising for them! Instead, it seems to be the worst drivers who drive BMWs. They are either very stupid, or very self-absorbed/arrogant, or BOTH! And that's all I associate with BMWs. Terrible drivers.

BMW should have potential buyers go through a driver's class so they will be better at driving. It would improve their reputation.

I had a BMW, it was always in the shop for "service" when this light or that light would come on. I enjoyed driving it, but it got trashed in Philly at a hockey game. They tore off emblems, broke mirrors, and either pissed or dumped beer on it.

My girlfriends son decided to go joy ride with it and crashed into 2 parked cars, totalled all 3. He walked away and the frame did stay in tact.

So the ONLY good thing that I can say about it was that in a crash, the car was safe. Dont think I would ever buy one again.

I know a guy who is a VP. Probably makes 250K a year. Drives a 10 year old Jetta. I've got a cousin who works help-desk and drives a 2009 BMW and lives with his parents.

What you drive says little about you. Being a courteous driver says a lot.

I've been driving mine for about 50k miles now and it has barely needed anything in the way of service. To date, I haven't spent a nickel maintaining it. I take it in every once in a while and the car's computer tells them what needs to be done. They give me a loaner car and they wash and vacuum mine while they have it. They top off all the fluids and put new wiper blades in. It can go a year without an oil change. When I pick the car up they hand me an invoice, which I sign and walk away.

Oh, I already replaced them once. Granted, they are expensive but I have to say that's convenient too. The one time I had a flat it didn't cause a major problem, I just drove it in at the next convenient time. I didn't count that as maintenance. By the way, I knew how much tires were before I bought the car, and I can afford them.

At least you folks in the UK make a very noteworthy luxury auto, ie, the Jaguar (Jag-oo-are in British English of course).

If I were to go for a purely luxury automobile, it would be either a Jaguar, a Cadillac, Lexus, Lincoln, or Buick. Unfortunately over here in the States, Jaguar maintenance is so damned expensive. BMW and Mercedes have simply become such a bloody cliche, that it's not even funny (Not to mention their major reliability issues. I knew a guy once who had his Bimmer in the garage more so than on the street).

Ha, I don't even want to try and compute that. I remember when I first started driving at 17, and my parents made certain to insure me under the least expensive car we owned. It was still a good deal of money despite such, and I was driving an old Volvo 4-Banger (I remember how excited I was to be able to drive that thing). Fortunately by the time I was driving an F-body I was a little older (I remember a mechanic even offered to buy the car off me, because he said I'd probably kill myself in it lol).


Btw, two days ago I heard a guy bragging about how much power he could get out of an M3 if he supercharged it. The funny thing is, the SC and TC kits for that car, even only at Stage 1, run about $15,000 (Minus installation)!!! To achieve Stage 2, you need to dish out an additional $5,000! That's so damn asburd that it's not even funny. I can reach Stage 2 in my current car for $5,000 total, or if I get my brother to help me out, I can probably achieve it for under $2,500.
