I'm 30 and don't know how to tie a tie

I can't do it. Luckily, I'm not required to wear one at work. If I need to wear one for an interview, or other formal event, I just get someone else to do it. Had to wear one today and watched 10 different Youtube videos. Still couldn't do it.

What style of knot are you trying to do?

Try following a chart rather than a video.

Thanks for this, I'll have to try pictorials out. I'll settle for any knot to start.

What the fuck is that? Ha! I am 50 and have been tying a tie for over 30 years and I cannot tell what the hell is going on in those examples. I cannot even tell what style I use (maybe a Windsor). After doing it for so long I can tie a tie in the dark and still get the right length. Haven't had to wear one on a regular basis in quite some time though. Weddings and funerals.

And if you are really in a pinch OP, you can always stop by a Mens Warehouse or similar place and the sales guys will be more than happy to show you.

Im 50, probably only wore a tie about 4 times in my life, at one time I did learn how to put the tie on, but I wasn’t great at it, and now I totally forget how to tie a tie

I wear regular ties nearly every day but I have a major challenge with bow ties. Maybe 10 times a yeat I have to wear one and it always takes 15 mins to a half hour to get it tied, even with printed instructions. The bow tie instructions all suck. Specifically the "doubling back" and "up through the loop" bits are very ambiguous. Eventually I end up with something that looks tied, but it's actually some kind of granny knot. Regular ties are no problem.

Fortunately nobody wears ascots, cravats, or rouge ties. They look cool and that video was fascinating but I'd hate having to tie those things.

Just ask your mommy to tie it for you after she wipes your ass this morning!

You are not an ex GI! They would have taught you the correct way. None of those giant knots there, or tight pants!

In 2019, if your job requires a necktie or you choose to wear one anyway...you are a mope in a dead end job.

Suits? Yes.
Dress Shirts? Yes.
Dress Shoes? Yes.
Neckties? No.

In 2019, as in prior years, the general rule of thumb is to dress at the same level of formality of the person two levels above you in the organization. If you are the owner/proprietor, then dress slightly more formally than your customers. Many people attempt to look cool or trendy by not wearing a tie, and they come across as affected mopes going nowhere.
