Teabag Attack at the Pentagon

With the proliferation of guns in VA we can expect a lot more angry white men pulling this kind of stunts in the name of watering the tree of liberty.

You mean this guy?

As usual, shit-for-brains publishes based on flawed assumptions. Time to admit it V, you really are wrong about everything.

In reviewing the postings, this guy looks like he is related to V (at least mentally). Although he appears to be a lot smarter - just lacking as strongly in the common sense department.

The UK press says he was into 9/11 conspiracy stuff.

By the way Vince, you don't help any of your arguments by making up links between the Tea Party movement and every wacko thing that happens in the country. It is as short-sighted as the "call 'em yellow slanty-eyed chinks" efforts to dehumanize Asian opponents in decades past. Whether you agree with them or not the movement has a loud voice, attention of the press, and they are much more willing to make themselves heard than anyone else at this time. And like the dehumanized enemy, attention on funny names takes away from concentrating on the real threat, and as a result many progressives will have to black-helicopter out of DC in November I fear.

If you dislike them you should be working constructively to counter them, not posting stupid threads that a cannabis-loving wackjob is a teabagger. Since when is legalization a Tea Party platform item? That's usually a liberal stance, not a conservative one.

Actually, pot legalization is also a libertarian stance. It's not exactly like Alaska is a mecca for liberal thought.

How did Alaska come into this? The guy lived in California, was a 9/11 conspiracy nut and hated the military. So you would agree then that California IS a mecca for liberal thought?

Alaska has pretty lax laws on marijuana. It's not a liberal state by any means. Just because someone is pro-pot doesn't necessarily mean that they are liberal.

There is one common theme in the Tea Bag Party...angry white men who want to take down the government. The Party has even come up with an oath that its members can give denouncing the Republican AND Democratic parties. These are radicalized nutcases who have more in common with the Freemen or Tim McVeigh than they do with Reagan or Clinton. My criticism is that the GOP is wrapping its arms around these fuckers even though they are promoting violence against the government.

No, what has she been "saying" WTL? I see one comment in a radio interview where she didn't absolutely rule out the government and 9/11. Did she make lots of comments elsewhere? I honestly don't follow the TEXAS governor elections. Boy, you must be really taking a lot of time to track tea party candidates.

Until a recent stumble -- during a radio interview, Medina wouldn't rule out the notion that the government was behind the Sept. 11 attacks -- she was well positioned to slip past Hutchison in the first round of balloting.

Has she signed up to any of the groups Van Jones is affiliated with? Or Charlie Sheen - whoa, they must both be tea party folks also huh?

Where was your criticism when it was discovered that Barak Obama "wrapped his arms" around a domestic terrorist by kicking off his political career in the living room of an unrepentant terrorist?

LOL, pretty soon, WTL and Vince are going to be talking about how the Tea Party is behind 9/11, the Lindbergh kidnapping, the plague, the crucifixion of Christ, the great flood, Hurrican Katrina and the Mike O'Meara podcast.

Well, duh, but WTL is a bit crazed right now. He probably believes that the Tea Party was behind the Haiti earthquake instead of the obvious answer which is that it was created because of Obama's disdain for black Haitians.

The Mount Vernon Statement
Constitutional Conservatism: A Statement for the 21st Century
http://www.themountvernonstatement.com/
Quote

...
A Constitutional conservatism based on first principles provides the framework for a consistent and meaningful policy agenda.

* It applies the principle of limited government based on the
rule of law to every proposal.
* It honors the central place of individual liberty in American
politics and life.
* It encourages free enterprise, the individual entrepreneur, and
economic reforms grounded in market solutions.
* It supports America’s national interest in advancing freedom
and opposing tyranny in the world and prudently considers what we can and should do to that
end.
* It informs conservatism’s firm defense of family, neighborhood,
community, and faith.

If we are to succeed in the critical political and policy battles ahead, we must be certain of our purpose.

We must begin by retaking and resolutely defending the high ground of America’s founding principles.

Radical stuff there...

WTL can you post that Oath and a link to the official tea party site so we can see how radical it is?

Perhaps the connection to the Teabag Party is a stretch. But here is the bottom line...the teabag party is an attempt harnass and legitimises the irrational anti-government fury which is out there. Mix that with the arsenal of guns and ammo which has occured in the last year and we have a formula for disasters like the one at the Pentagon.

RV obviously is confusing the Tea Party with conservatives. They aren't. The Tea Party is growing into a radicalized anti-government, anti-military group of "sovereign citizens" along the lines of the Freemen and Branch Davidians. These people are not conservatives. They are whack-jobs. There are tons of Tea Party sites that bash the military and that support the 9/11 conspiracy theories. The Tea Party does not represent the thinking of conservatives. It represents the thinking of Alex Jones.

WTL obviously is confusing what he thinks with reality. They aren't the same. While he would like to paint the Tea Party movement as a bunch of violent whack jobs who seek to overthrow the government and then in turn say the GOP is embracing this ideology, the facts simply won't let him. To be sure, I am certain there are radical members and small factions within the movement that actually espouse these ideas, they hardly represent the majority of the movement.

To be fair, WTL shares his party with Bill Ayers, Black Panthers, CodePinkers, Truthers, etc. Does that mean he espouses their platforms and ideas?

I know three people who vocally declare themselves as "tea partiers". The one guy is an openl racist who says the n-word around his kids, another guy is convinced Obama is going to take his guns and loved Joe The Plumber, and the other is some chick who thinks Obama was born in Africa.

I think that realistically sums up the teabag movement.

Well, I only know one person who has participated in a tea party activity, so I suppose your sample size is better, but the guy I know is a neighbor who is asian and owns his own business. I've never heard him espouse any of the nonsensical views your friends share.

What I do know, however, is that 20% of the tea party activists are non-white. A higher percentage of tea party activists have a college degree than the general population, 23% of tea party activists describe themselves as liberal or moderate and 56% describe themselves as Democrats or Independents.

Basically, the numbers just don't support your conculsion.

In any event, with his pro-immigrant truther agenda, the Pentagon shooter can hardly be described as a teabagger - unless he likes dipping his nuts.

Losers because they make more money than the average American? Or, losers because they don't share your views?

I think people who go around quoting Sarah Palin, believing that Glenn Beck should be president, or saying stuff about Obama being an illegal immigrant should be treated with scorn and contempt. It's jerkoffs like that who are fueling the teabagger movement.

But I'm sure if you show up at a $600 "teabag convention", you'll get a demographic more in line with your statistics. Not smarter, just more willing to spend the money.

What about people who believe 9/11 was an inside job? How should they be treated? With political appointments?

Maybe you should stop hanging out with losers.

I met quite a few "tea party" folks when my cousin and her husband came up for the 9/12 event. None of them were radical - they were all normal people fed up with all the spending and not being listened to by their representatives. My cousin runs their own business and has a PhD in chemistry, her husband also has an advanced degree but I don't remember in what. Both of them smoked pot in the 70s and are true non-affiliated voters - they generally vote democrat but will vote for republican as well.

What WTL seems to believe, and what others like MotherJones are trying to do is make folks believe that everyone in the tea party is some radical right-wing loon, when in reality all they are doing is pointing out fringe groups that have affiliated themselves with the movement. Much like code pink is to liberals, these groups are to the tea party. But hey, MSM goes along with it since it suits their agenda, and Soros funded groups are doing their job making you believe it. Just the constant use of the derogatory for the tea party shows they are pushing their message to anyone that wants to listen to it. There are quite a few 9/11 truthers out there, and there are many liberal groups (and liberals) affiliated with them - so I guess all liberals are 9/11 truther whack jobs right?

As I said - it is funny that most of the high profile violence lately here in the US directed at the government or significant groups has been carried out by highly disturbed, left-leaning nut jobs. Folks at tea party events may carry guns, yet the violence at the town hall meetings was mainly due to SEIU thugs. Might want to re-evaluate those beliefs.

I love this argument that Bedell is automatically "liberal" because he smokes pot and distrusts the military. Is Gravis liberal? Because he does the same damn thing.

The fact is, libertarians don't think the government should do anything about pot, either (same with some conservatives). And as for not trusting the military, who are all these fucking "Oath Keepers" you are so in love with, RV? They obviously don't trust the military, either! And finally, the guy had fucking GUNS! Do liberals walk around with guns???

The fact is, the teabaggers are telegraphing messages to these nutcases that it is okay to take arms against your government. While that is bad, what's worse is Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin and the GOP leadership embracing this bullshit.

The fact is that they don't telegraph that message at all. No matter how many times you repeat it, it will never make it true. What kind of message does Barack Obama telegraph when starting a political career in the living room of a terrorist bomber?

WASHINGTON -- One of the two police officers shot by a gunman outside the Pentagon says he is doing fine and credits God for shielding him.

Pentagon police Officer Jeffery Amos declined to answer questions about the shooting when reached by telephone by The Associated Press.

Officials said Amos and Officer Marvin Carraway were wounded when a gunman identified as John Patrick Bedell opened fire at the entrance to the Pentagon Thursday night. Bedell was mortally wounded by return fire.

Amos and Carraway were treated for superficial wounds. They have been released from the hospital.

Amos told the AP: "I just thank the Lord that he shielded me when all of this took place."

Kind of off topic - but Texas receives more in Fed $ then they pay to the Feds. If they want to leave the union, let them!

You are a big boy now Texas, mommy and daddy do not need to give you an allowance anymore.

And there you go - bipolar, mental illness - and still he buys a gun. He could have just as easily flown a plane into a building too if he had a pilot's license.

Parents of Pentagon Shooter Warned Authorities About Him
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,588074,00.html
Quote

...
San Benito County Sheriff Curtis Hill told The Associated Press that Bedell, 36, had been at in-patient mental health institutions at least four times. Court records showed he was diagnosed as bipolar, or manic depressive.

His parents reported him missing on Jan. 4, one day after a Texas Highway Patrol officer stopped him for speeding in Amarillo, according to the missing person's report. Bedell told the highway patrolman he was heading for the East Coast, and the officer used Bedell's phone to call his mother, Kaye Bedell, because he seemed disheveled and out of sorts.

Kaye Bedell told the highway patrol officer in Texas that her son was fine, and the patrolman let him go with a warning. But the next day, Kaye told deputies in California that her son didn't have any reason to travel to the East Coast because he had no friends or family there and she and her husband were worried about his mental state, Hill said.

Hill also said Bedell's parents found an e-mail from their son that indicated he had purchased a gun. They asked Hill to help them find Bedell and get him help.

Angry US students protest cuts to higher education

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Anger over increasing tuition and school budget cuts boiled over as students across the country staged rowdy demonstrations that led to clashes with police and the rush-hour shutdown of a major freeway in California.

Students, teachers, parents and school employees rallied and marched Thursday at college campuses, public parks and government buildings in many U.S. cities in what was called the March 4 Day of Action to Defend Public Education.

In California, protesters evaded police and walked onto Interstate 880 near downtown Oakland just before 5 p.m., forcing the closure of the freeway in both directions for more than an hour and causing traffic to back up for miles.

Police arrested more than 150 people, said Officer Sam Morgan, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.

One protester suffered serious injuries after jumping from the elevated freeway while officers were making arrests.

Elsewhere, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee police arrested at least 15 people protesting tuition hikes after demonstrators tried to enter an administrative building to deliver petitions to the chancellor.

Some protesters threw punches and ice chunks when police turned them away, university spokesman Tom Luljak said.

It's a matter of degree. Manic depressive's can go totally over the edge depending on how depressed they get. So in this case, probably not much.

so anyone that doesnt believe in the republican or democratic parties is a nut bag? Why is that so radical? Saying democrat is the opposite of republican is like saying coke is the opposite of pepsi. What do you do when you are not represented by either party, and there is no real chance for change through legal protest. And if you think different, let me remind you of the anti war protests that went on over the iraq war, millions rallied and protested and they were nothing more than a 15 second clip on the 24 hour news networks. Nothing changed, status quo as always.

The point being, the parents reported his bipolar issue and mental illness to the authorities, noted he had bought a gun, and weren't sure where he was or why he was heading to the east coast. Plenty of red flags, and probably a good reason to put out a notice to look for the guy to make sure he didn't do something stupid - for instance...

I'm a big supporter of the second amendment, belong to the NRA, blah blah blah and I definitely do not believe people with psychiatric diagnosis should be able to own firearms.

You can't become a police officer with any sort of psychiatric history and I knew people that were kicked out of the military for being bipolar.

Yes, it is treatable with medication and many can lead normal lives, but
there are too many factors and risks for people with mental illness.

Again, I support gun rights, but people with mental illness have no right to firearms.

Mental illness is too broad of a term. I don't think someone who has depression or anxiety should be considered just as dangerous as a psychotic or schizophrenic.

Bipolar by itself doesn't erase one's concepts of right and wrong. Bipolar people are prone to being impulsive, yes, but he wasn't acting on impulse here.

I will agree that people who have demonstrated themselves to be a danger to themselves or others should not be allowed access to firearms, but that's kind of how it works already.

Those posts just prove the theory behind folks that shouldn't own guns. Bipolar is the least of his problems.

The Pentagon shooter is in another category altogether.

No, bipolar doesn't erase the concept of right and wrong. It does affect judgment and clouds reasoning. As far as being impulsive, the manic portion of bipolar is just as dangerous as the depression side.

Bipolar is a serious mental illness, and while you are far more functional than a schizophrenic, it is still a mental disability.

People that have applied for security clearances have been denied them for history of depression and bipolar. Same for police officers, firemen, pilots, etc. Why? Because it affects judgment and trustworthiness.

Something mild like dysthymia or social anxiety, sure. Bipolar or anything with the chance of psychotic symptoms? Out of the question.

I was diagnosed bipolar by the military. They didn't even talk about me being discharged. I'm speaking from firsthand experience; there are no psychotic episodes with being bipolar. Me owning a gun is no less dangerous than a "sane" person.

I'm sure the history that caused those people to be denied contained more than just "they're bipolar." Financial woes, anger management problems, involuntary commitment to institutions, run-ins with the law, etc. on top of a bipolar diagnosis is a big red flag. I haven't had so much as a speeding ticket in six years.

Hell, I don't even jaywalk. Saying that I'm just as prone to go on a shooting rampage as this guy is an inaccurate statement.

The military is only concerned that you aren't on continuing medication. If you were bipolar but not on meds, they probably considered that a bene.

Actually, they did put me on medication for a while.

Well, that's fortunate for you. Where I was at, the only diagnosis the commanders were sympathetic to were the ones with stress related disorders from deployments. Any psychiatric disorders or personality disorders got a Chapter 13.

Delusions and hallucinations are common with manic episodes.

No, they were denied simply for the diagnosis.

Continuing your medication is a real concern when you deploy. I knew a woman that was almost kicked out because she could barely function with obsessive compulsive disorder. She was able to ETS before she was chaptered.

I wish they still had the MPs guarding the Pentagon, because that clown would've been plastered everywhere like a horrible graffiti job.

Well, then I'll put it this way: I've never had any serious problems due to being bipolar. I don't get delusions or hallucinate during manic episodes. I understand that shooting people is wrong, with lasting consequences, so I won't do that. I don't believe people in situations similar to mine should be denied their right to firearms.

It sure is. It's one of the main reasons why I already have the odds against me in enlisting, just because I have to take a few pills here or there (Allergies, and whatever else). I've been active in sports, outdoor activities, and a whole lot for my entire life so far, and when I train at something, I tend to excel at it. Just because I have to take some meds though, that already pretty much takes me out of contention for combat readiness (4F). Something as seemingly non-problematic as controlled/non-chronic asthma can prevent someone from enlisting too (Fortunately for my neighbor, his asthma stopped a few years back, so he's headed for the Corps via ROTC).

Hopefully I'll find a way in though, because I have a few specialties, and a variety of talents. It's a shame, because I was offered an Annapolis appointment by brass, but it's the 4-6 year commitment post-graduation that presented a questionable issue.

You are fortunate to have a mild case. I knew someone that was as batshit insane during her manic episodes as a schizophrenic.

There was a guy in my high school that had asthma and became an officer in the Navy through Virginia Tech's ROTC.

I don't know your situation or how old you are, but the Merchant Marine Academy has lower standards and you can still become an active duty military officer after you graduate.

Strange. Several media sources are saying that Bedell was a registered Democrat. Are the Democrats now the Tea Party? I'm confused.

Michelle Malkin is claiming it (without providing evidence) and it is being echoed by the Republican echo chamber.

Regardless, I have contended all along that the Tea Party's anti-government, pro-violence rhetoric is going to encourage people to take up arms against the government and that the GOP is idiotic to embrace these people.

This is a blatant lie.

Malkin's evidence is Badell's listing as a Democrat in www.Electorates.us https://www.e-merges.com/voter-lists.html, an online fee-based database of registered voter records. http://michellemalkin.com/2010/03/05/about-the-pentagon-shooter/

Sorry, but Michelle Malkin's posting of a "voter registration" form from a questionable source doesn't undo what people are discovering about Bedell...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Patrick_Bedell#Beliefs

The man quoted libertarian economists and touted the right of private property and condemned government regulation.
