Trump’s tariffs amount to a significant tax increase, by raising consumer goods

Accounting for both the tax cuts and the full range of tariffs, the Tax Foundation estimates, the lowest-earning fifth of American taxpayers would see an effective tax increase of 1.1 percent of their income this year. Those in the middle fifth would see a 0.3 percent tax increase. Upper-middle-class earners would have their gains from tax cuts wiped out. Only the top 5 percent of earners would continue to see a net tax cut of more than 1 percent on the year.

Trump managed to put a casino into bankruptcy. Several times, actually. A business where thousands of people literally walk in the front door, hand you money, and leave with nothing in return. And Trump couldn’t make money doing that.

Is anyone *really* surprised that his economic policies are half-assed and potentially disastrous?

DEMwits never passed Econ 101. Strong dollar and a ruthless retail environment makes the effects of tariffs on consumers hardly noticeable.

Strong dollar hurts exports from usa, tariffs hurt imports to usa - your argument is the opposite of reality.

Tariff increases do not AMOUNT to tax increases. They ARE tax increases. A tariff is a tax, PERIOD.

With Mexico, not only will consumer goods like clothing, produce and auto parts go up in price its the supply chain management that is having a very difficult time with these unexpected tariffs and threat of tariffs. Manufacturers who have moved supply chain from China to Mexico are scrambling. In supply chain management these chaotic policy changes extract a very heavy toll.
