He is learning disabled not stupid. His emotional intelligence (reading people) is very high. He seems like a pretty quick study on most things as well. His problem is with reading, writing and deep understanding of technical issues. For example he is known to spend all day making superficial decisions like looking through fabric swatches to select finishes for his real estate.
However, when it comes to understanding policy or long term effects or legislation he is unable to sustain focus long enough to absorb information on that level.

It’s funny he’d even need to write something like that down. It’s not like some complex idea that might require some notes to stay on track. I imagine he thought it was so funny he scribbled it down just to make sure he didn’t forget.

That actually made me crack up. The reason he’s so insecure about Obama is that Obama did everything better than him. Obama gave him an unbelievable economy after being handed a recession. Obama had a vocabulary of more than 5 adjectives and don’t get me started on popularity. Trump is definitely jealous that America loves Obama

At least when Obama reads from a tele-prompter it isn't painful to watch.
When Trump reads from the teleprompter I feel like I'm watching some fourth grader reading his first speech to the class. Trump's awkward pauses, monotone and direct blank stares into each teleprompter make me very nervous watching him.
It's almost as bad as trying to decipher what the first lady is trying say. Her broken Russian English is painful too.

At this point its impossible to believe Trump is smart and honest. The way he is acting he is either an imbecile or he is deeply compromised by soon-to-be-discovered illegal financial dealings. I suspect something along the OP's lines is the correct take here.
As to Barry, well he can spell better than Trump we know that for sure. Then again Barry didnt seem to have learning disabilities like Donald.

Well we know for certain his Charity was a scam - no one in the Trump family is allowed to sit on a charity board in the state of NY per court order. Of course its well documented he and his family committed tax fraud in the disposition of Fred's assets.
The NYT showed he was a complete fraud claiming he was a good businessman in Art of The Deal - he lost more money every year for a decade than almost any other US citizen filing taxes. So now, Deutsche Bank is being forced to release details of loans to the Don. That and his returns will reveal the truth of Trump's finances. No betting person with a brain would wager Don avoided illegal behavior.
