They skip heavily in the manufacturing process. They build the engine in a factory (easily accessed: for them), put it in a small place - meaning they KNOW you can't repair it reasonably. Ends up fixing one thing requires removing 10 other things or even the whole engine and transmission in some cases. Did they make removing the engine easy? Hell no.
Drove a 2000 Tata Tdi crew cab pickup truck while living overseas. Unstoppable out bush, but it was a bitch to drive around town. Wife could not park it to save her life!!!

I own a 2004 Volvo w/ 233,000mi and a 1999 Mercedes w/ 228,000mi - between the 2 of them I have only had to bring the Volvo in two times (once under a recall and free) in the last 7 years of ownership. I replace brakes, ball joints, shocks filters, belts, tensioners as they wear out. These are still daily drivers we take on long road trips. They still look decent on the inside and the Volvo looks good inside and out.
Show me and American car that can match that reliability and build quality. One example please.

Vega was driving a bomb. Get rammed in the back the car would explode. Remember the "

Many passengers were killed or became paraplegics. I know one of the Kennedy boys (crazy Joe) was driving a dune buggy jeep that flipped and left the passenger crippled for life. Kennedy's are always in the shit.
Reminds me of the Reliant Robin, the three wheeled death trap from the UK. In its prime, the American Embassy owned thee of them, Princess Margaret drove one, and was the eighth best selling car in Europe.
The lone wheel was in the front, not the back, so, turnovers were common when only the driver occupied the car. The early editions were city cars, so they maxed out at 50 mph. However, they soon made a four and six cylinder models that proved to be more deadly than Dr. Harold Shipman (look it up if you don't know who he is).

many are still on the road - including ones made in early 1900's.
I don't know what you do, but every day I drive too and fro. Outside of a car show or some beater in a field or junk yard, I would say it's been more than a good couple of decades since I've seen a Pinto, Vega, AMC Hornet, Matador, Datsun B210 as daily driver. Hell, I even used to own another relic shitster,a Volare with fake wood paneling. Sure, on the weekends you see some antiques around, but many?? And not that many take the effort to keep confirmed pieces of shit roadworthy. Maybe you live in some alternative universe or West Virginia, but here in upscale NOVA, I don't see "many" of the confirmed beaters as listed above

I bought a brand new 2004 explorer. I was looking at the Toyota 4runner too but it was $5000 more than the explorer so I figured I could use the 5000 for repairs on the explorer. That explorer was by far the worst vehicle I ever owned, I ditched it with 98,000 miles on it years ago. If I had bought the Toyota I would probably still have it today.
I was in Gitmo many years ago, you had all kinds of old cars from the early years 1970s on. There is really no inspection for vehicles when I was there. You could pretty much drive anything no matter how bad it was falling part. I remember old Pintos, Datsun 240Zs, Thunderbirds. Parts were very hard to get at the time. Like driving on a Indian Reservation.

My buddy had his new Corvette there. Not many roads to drive on and it made no sense whatsoever, but he didn't have anywhere to store it in the US while he was working at Gitmo.

It's called Afroengineering. Detroit's just as guilty of it. Ever try to change a headlight on some of these cars? Step 1 is take off the bumper.

Yeah & most of them have Soviet diesel engines & Chinese truck manual trannys & rear ends & have had 'em for years. The bodies are patched with scrap metal & putty. Yeah. Right.

At the time, a percentage of cars, any car, exploded after high speed rear collision. The problem was, The Pinto had a faulty brake light circuit, so when the Pinto was stopped drivers from behind many times couldn't tell. An unusually high number of Pintos were hit in the rear, so, you then got higher explosion numbers.
The early 80's Ford Probe had that issue of the hard to get to spark plugs. One ford dealership tried to use electric tools to remove a sparkplug on a friend's Probe and with the angle the mechanic had to use he ended up sheering off a piece of the engine the size of a playing card. They welded it back on, but the engine never sounded right afterwards.
In the early 80's GM was getting their clock cleaned by the Japanese imports. I can remember a GM commercial comparing their sporty rear view mirrors to the bland mirror designs of the Japanese because that was really all they had.

No particular order, although Vega probably deserves to be the worst.
I have owned several Toyota Yaris' they are rock solid reliable, cheap and easy to repair and can easily go 300K+ with no major issues other than tires and routine maintenance. Maybe not the best car to get into a head on collision with a semi truck with, but if you want something cheap, that lasts and lasts and you don't have to fuck with this one hell of a no frills economy car.

No, I gave one Yaris, that I bought new, to my 16 year old daughter on her birthday, four years later she still has it with a little over 100k- no major issues. One I still have with 268k on it and the 3rd Yaris, I used to have, with 311k on it got totalled by a deer in 2019.

My Trumptard neighbor and his retarded son put this Vega together. It was sitting on blocks in his front yard for years now it beats any car in our trailer park in the 1/4 mile of Rt.1 here in Woodbridge.

I had a Toyota Corolla with 332,000 miles on it, all it ever needed was oil changes, brakes and tires. I was up in Canada on a fishing trip and forgot to put on the parking brake. The Corolla rolled into the lake and was underwater for a couple days, I got it towed and the fluids changed and the car started right up and ran for another 80,000 miles with no problem. 10 years ago I sold it to a nog. It might still be running for all I know.

Yes, you said in your 1st post, you've owned several. If they weren't so good, why would you have to buy so many? If you hafta keep buying them, they can't be too good.

I guarantee you it's not. 1 thing about 'groids is they don't take care of their cars. Even a Pinto will keep running if you do the right maintenance on it. I'd never own a BMW, but I went with a buddy of mine because he wanted 1. We were looking at used BMWs at the dealer. There was 1 that had a real low price for its year and type. The salesman said he had been the 1 who took it in trade for a new one. It was in pretty bad condition. It ran, but you could tell the shop had patched it together & the MGMT was hoping to sell it fast. It was even "AS IS". I asked the salesman if a black guy had brought it in. He asked me how I knew. I told him it was a lucky guess.
I saw a Cmary advertised, so I went to look at it. It was a black guy selling it. It was obviously not taken care of. I excused my self fast and GTFO.
Don't buy cars owned by 'groids. They're too cheap to do the maintenance. They spend their money on stupid shit & not on shit they should. Don't buy from towelheads, either. They try to slick you every time. Mexicans are OK, although you gotta jew 'em down a bit on the price. I prefer to sell to Mexicans, since they'll pay more. 'Groids and diaperbutts are always trying to chisel the price.

NEVER SELL YOUR CAR TO YOUNG NEGRO MALES. You can tell them the car is "as is", they see what's wrong with it, if anything, so you don't want them coming back and complaining and wanting their money back. the sale's final & done. They pay you, take the car & beat the crap out of it. A week or 2 later, they're at your door wanting their money back. If you refuse, 1 of them does that little "reach into the inside coat pocket and do a half-jerk of his arm". I slammed the door in his face & called the Sheriff's Dept. He sent his cousin over the next week. I told him to wait there & I'd get something to pay him. I got a long barrel shotgun and told him he'd get paid with a face full of buckshot if he didn't get off the property. They showed up again & this time the Sheriff's Deputies gave them weekend accommodations compliments of the taxpayers. The judge let them out that Mon. aft. with a warning not to show up again. They never showed up again & eventually I moved out of state. Still, I swore I'd NEVER sell to a young black male again.

Just curious. How can you type and not read? The poster had 3 Yarises. One he gave to his daughter. One he still has. One got totaled by a deer. All ran or are still running with no problems. That's why he bought "so many". Why can't you get that into your head?
Guys, which car is it better to buy? I've got a driving license not so long ago so I need something not expensive to improve my driving skills, any ideas? I am new to this that's why I don't know what things to consider in order to choose the best option. Hey, I had a girlfriend in the 80s with a Fiero too. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever been in or driven and we had fun with it. Hers was the 4 cylinder which was probably better than the 6.
As for the Pacer, well yeah, it sucked but the Gremlin was worse. All AMCs were lousy but some people loved them. For one thing, they were usually so simply made that you could fix them with a pair of pliers and a hammer if you knew what you were doing.
My old man's 1961 Peugeot. He drove the car and our family from Anaheim California all the way to Shirlington, in Arlington County, that year. No AC, through out the desert southwest trip on the way. Black paint exterior and tan vinyl interior seat covers. I will always hate the French for this! Worst is a kind description. Car parked in Fairfax, near the future Fair Oaks Mall.

Chevy Monza with a V-8 engine. The way the engine was jammed under the hood the engine had to be pulled out of the engine bay to change the two spark plugs closest to the firewall. That's some really screwed up engineering when you consider the frequency with which 1970's spark plugs had to be changed.
Since it was built on a Vega frame the cars didn't last 75,000 miles.

Shows how little you know. Forget the little old lady who only drove the car to church on Sundays. The ideal 1 owner vehicle is one owned by an older (60+) black men who is married and regularly attend church. The vehicle will be well maintained inside and out. You won't get the chance to buy it though because he will probably sell it to a family member.
If the car is coming off lease and the lease includes maintenance a black owner will be preferable to a white lower middle class or poorer owner. If a white owner is busy or just lazy he won't bother to get the maintenance done. A black owner will be happy to take the time to have someone else do the work.

Those old American engines from the fifties got 10-12 miles a gallon, so it is not economical to keep them running today.
Pop any bonnet on those 1950's Chevys and Buicks still running in Cuba today, and I guarantee you will find a Russian made engine from Lada, or a 1980's German Mercedes diesel. Those old American cars have a lot of space under the bonnet to retro fit different engines.
