James Comey is fighting a subpoena to testify behind closed doors, but says he is willing to testify on live TV. There is a reason for that. In the open, he can refuse to answer embarrassing questions by citing national security, but he can’t do that in a closed-door session since everyone in the room has a security clearance. So, his lawyer filed to squash the subpoena. Unfortunately, he drew a Trump-appointed lawyer and not an activist that would save his crooked butt. Of course, he could take the fifth, but that would be the same as pleading guilty.

Advantages to testifying publicly? Yeah, its called transparency. That is an advantage for Comey. I agree.

The public v. Private testimony debate does turn on manipulation. It just isn't manipulation by Comey. If the interview is conducted in private the questioners will control 100% of the process. If the interview is conducted in public they only control the questions asked.
