Blame Gov for EVERYTHING

Watched some program on Gary, Indiana.
Basic premise of the show is what a mess that place is now after being an industrial mini-power up through the 50's and 60's.
As usual, people get on there and blame politicians...on either side...they didn't do this, that and the other to save Gary.
Of course, never mind that this happened all through the midwest at about the same time-hence, the "rust belt". Detroit, Allentown, Lima, Flint, on and on. Industries changed, some went away. Not because of some government trick, but progress or change in general.
But no, to these people it has nothing to do with basic free market economics-it was something the government did or didn't do on behalf of THEIR community. Forgetting, of course, that other communities may have been better situated to receive various parts of these factories, industries, etc as they became decentralized, or smaller, or even went away.
And then, of course, racism is thrown in there. Like, decisions were made by the company or the government to punish a race, that at one time, when things were good, were the backbone of the industry.
So, what do people in these communities do? They build churches, with the idea that through prayer and harmony and banding together, they can bring back the local economy by planting gardens, getting rid of drugs, restoring old houses and selling them for like $50 each, etc.
Don't they realize that without an economic engine, none of that crap matters?
And, with an economic engine, none of that crap matters?
What is the matter with people?
