https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DARPA

darpa didn't invent frame relay but they did invent the way IP works in the USA (after which AT&T labs created: X.25, tcp was only one of several sub-formats and many say: the worst choice that colleges chose who knows why). cisco worked on it.

NCSA Mosaic was the FIRST WEB BROWSER period, developed by Marc Andreessen in a USA college (he was sued by the colleget releasing it as Netscape since they #ownedit). (there were bulletin board graphic icon programs and internet graphics but NOTHING like a web browser before Mosaic)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosaic_(web_browser)

BEFORE the first web browser, X Windows (Unix, which microsoft tried to delete and failed at deleting) was also made by AT&T labs (Apple's OS/X line was built from it, freeBSD, linux X5-X11 - but X.org broke all traditions isn't compatible and disclaims licenses).

the XEROX Workstation could transfer things to print (to professional printing machines) across the world, view them, edit them, and had a graphics desktop. IT WAS FULLY INTERNET ENABLED "transparently" - it could show graphics rendered on a remote computer beside one locally made without effort (this didn't happen on the PC for decades later). it was the (a, one) basis for ps then PDF (adobe acrobat).

PDF allows viewing documents between machines just like WWW does: many would say it's superior to HTML for viewing and browsing printable documents online (no need for html when using PDF).

Breitbart says Tim Berners-Lee, UK, invented www.

HE DIDN'T

He/They could say england invented some of the most important technologies and software - and most softwares aren't really made by a single person (sometimes by immense teams over decades). UK has been valuable for USA to learn from but that doesn't mean we give them credit for "internet", or WWW, or whatever.

But they CANNOT say they made anything close to Mosaic.

Nor can UK say they had - in the public - graphic user interfaces to BBS or Workstations before usa. It simply didn't happen.

that Xerox PC is from early 1980's - before microsoft even had "windows" (just had text based DOS)

but even before PC's there were VECTOR GRAPHIC WORKSTATIONS with a different kind of TUBE (not crt) which could do very interesting things - computing wise and graphically too other than radar work.

(before that, eniac and univac in usa and UK that had text or even just blinking light output at first)

www used a "protocol" (html)

HOWEVER: protocols were used for everything. text ones too. mark up language especially to: LONG TIE before either tim or marks' time. protocols were many and a dime a dozen (still are).

False.

The first web browser was WorldWideWeb/Nexus on NeXT.

markup languages have their own LENGTHY history

Donald E. Knuth, (the art of computer programming,(an anthology)) and writer TeX has helped microsoft with more recent HTML versions (microsoft / government appointed microsoft as leader - which i consider illegal except for the legitimate Knuth part or whatever he condoned!)

Kernigan and Ritche, working for AT&T, also did some important markup language work, and text filters, before they released "the C programming language"

it's a long history not many have delved into but the ones who were there could probably rattle off somewhat easily

(countless network protocols were made)

but even the above were late comers to "markup languages", for example FORTRAN well preceeded C and was certainly not the first language either. infact UK did work on some of the most powerful language aspects that weren't in wide use until the 2000's (upper level (easy to use) math softwares use it)
