That is such a myth. The South has always had tornadoes. Virginia averages 18 tornadoes a year and September is the most reputed month for tornadoes in Virginia. This isn't "global warming". It was remnants of tropical storm left over from Florence. Virginia is 25th out of 50 states in terms of tornadic activity. Tornadoes are not rare here. Anyways, these were typical tornadoes for our region , F1s F2's, etc. Not some F5 tornado like Missouri or Kansas.
