Posted by: FUCK ()

FUCK, I scratched the new CODMW2 disc and now it's fucking me over. FUCK
Any recommendations on repairs? or should I just buy a new disc?
Also, if i buy a new disc, I don't have to start over, right?

1) deep scratches: non-fixable
2) buy a new disc
3) no save data is stored on the disk, your saves are on your xbox.

Most video game/CD stores sell a CD scratch fixing thing (DR. DVD, I think). You would have had to scratch it intentionally or be seriously careless to scratch it deep enough to render it inoperable.

I think the scratch fixing thing runs around $50 bucks, but it works.

Use toothpaste, rub it in to the cracks, wash off with warm water, allow to air dry.

see... this is one of the reasons you should be able to play backups of your own games.

What kind of fucktard thinks data is saved on a DVD and not a hard drive? Did the OP escape from the early 90s in a time machine???

Actually, I think it's a fair question. With the prevalance of copy protection software and such, it's not unreasonable to think that save data could be tied to a specific DVD.

I don't know anything about the XBOX, but it's not necessarily a dumb question. It's not like most people have to replace their game DVDs regularly enough to know.

have you ever heard of that being done, ever? it would have to be a hybrid DVD/CDR or be made in batches.

I have not, but I said I don't think it's an unreasonable question.

I'm primarily a PC gamer, so again, I can't speak for XBox. On a PC, though, you have to enter an activation code that's unique to each unit. Yes, I know it's generated based on an algorithm and other mathomancy-type stuff that I don't quite grasp.

There have been rare instances where I've replaced a PC game, and lost all my old progress after installing using the new discs.

I just think a more appropriate response to the OP's question about this would have been "highly unlikely" instead of "you're stupid for even asking."

if you have a large enough hard drive you can save them to it. you still need the disc to be in the xbox to play it but it works. it also helps your xbox run cooler.

To the OP, go to a blockbuster or other video rental place and ask them if they can use their machine to try and fix the scratches. I did this when i got a circle scratch on a brand new game because my xbox got moved while i was playing it. It cost $3 or something like that and worked like new.
