Another Poll Confirms Obama's 47% Approval Rating

This part was really interesting:

“Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama’s declining support is that just 50 percent of voters now say they prefer having him as president to George W. Bush, with 44 percent saying they’d rather have his predecessor. Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term, that’s somewhat of a surprise and an indication that voters are increasingly placing the blame on Obama for the country’s difficulties instead of giving him space because of the tough situation he inherited. The closeness in the Obama/Bush numbers also has implications for the 2010 elections. Using the Bush card may not be particularly effective for Democrats anymore, which is good news generally for Republicans and especially ones like [former Ohio Republican Rep.] Rob Portman who are running for office and have close ties to the former president.”

The big difference that does not show in these polls is the contribution by the press.

The press is part of the cover-up by trying to keep negative news about Obama under wraps.

The press did everything they could to dig up dirt on Bush - thus his low poll numbers.

If the press were not a willing participant in the Obama scam, the numbers would be much worse.

You've got to be kidding me. The opinion press is 99% conservative and rails about Obama 24 hours a day. When defending Fox News against accusations of bias, conservatives exempt all the "opinion hosts" like Sean Hannity, claiming they don't count. But when citing examples of what they call "media cheerleading" for Obama, those same people bring up Chris Matthes or Keith Olberman. The myth of "liberal media" is laughable.

Voter, have you been drinking someone's koolaid? That is funny as shit lol.

Opinion polls are not the same as the "Opinion Press" as you say.

If you are going to present a chart for comparison purposes, it might be worth finding one that shows a true comparison of the topic at hand. Also the source of the chart is worth knowing. (in searching that picture was on a number of folks photo sharing pages - it may have been the WSJ but I didn't see a story attached to it).

A previous poster made the link between the press and opinion polls--I am not equating the two. The point I was making was that there is plenty of negative press about Obama--turn on Fox News, talk radio, open the Drudge Report, or any number of other reliaby conservative outlets if you don't believe me. The chart I posted was to show that all presidents approval ratings decline as they start doing their jobs--seems plenty relevant to me. Here is the source:

there is nothing reliable about Fox "news". Half their commentators use the excuse that they are only entertainers as an excuse for their behavior...which is totally irresponsible and only trying to capture your dime.

Opinions are much like assholes. Everyone has one. Then again, some people are just assholes with opinions.

My theory for why Obama’s numbers are falling is that most Americans are just dumb. Look at the average standardized test scores. Look at how far behind Americans are compared to most European and Asia countries regarding education. It’s just part of our culture unfortunately. We as a nation are just plain stupid.

That’s why it is important for the more educated and liberal-minded to get out there are spread the word and make the important decisions that our less intelligent countrymen are unable to handle. We liberals know what is truly best for this country and we need to stop listening to the naysayers, even is they are the majority

LOL.

You know who dreamed up opinion polls right? All those supposedly "more intelligent" folks that know better than the rest of the supposedly dumb folks. Maybe if they stopped trying to shape opinion polls to meet their expectation or goal, and instead asked honest, simple questions they might get back some answers that make sense.

For the most part, the President's approval ratings are tied to the state of the economy and national security. When the economy sucks, as it does now, you can expect the POTUS's approval numbers to be down. When Bush invaded Iraq and declared "Mission Accomplished" a few weeks later, Americans were dumb enough to believe it and Bush's approval ratings rose. When it became apparent during Katrina that Bush was an incompetent sack of shit, his numbers began to fall.

It seemed kind of obvious to me that was a troll trying to stir things up. With respect to the point about "not listening to the naysayers, even if they are the majority", I do seem to recall something about an election just a short while ago. I think that's how we determine who the majority is--at least last I checked it was.

No I'm serious. Look at the empirical data. It's irrefutable. Americans, and people from red states in particular, are mostly uneducated boobs. What the US needs is a wise Philosopher-King (like Obama) who can rule over the dumb masses without interference or having to worry about approval. At the very least voting rights should be restricted to people with at least a bachelor’s degree.

If that were the case, how would the Democratic party exercise their feudal power over the welfare recipients?

Or those that can afford to pursue one, you mean.

As Fruppie would say, "That's Stupid".

Obama's ratings are down because he is doing a shitty job. Unemployment remains high, he bailed on most campaign promises, his surge in Afghanistan, the spending, the deficit, his home foreclosure assistance plan bombed, and so on. Youth voted for change, they got the status quo.

NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, and most print media are in Obama's back pocket, Fox won't bow to Obama, hence the attempt to ban from the press pool.

Blogs are both, and talk radio is predominantly conservative. Liberals on the radio are about as entertaining as watching paint dry...which is why Air America was such a failure.
