Christmas Lights
Posted by: dono ()

Well I went green and laid down a couple hundred dollars on LED Christmas lights this year. My observations:

They are very bright.
The 'white' lights are white/blue (vs. the yellow/white of trad lights).
The colored lights are much closer to trad lights and look pretty good.
You can string a lot more together than with trad lights.
Forget indoor applications of 'white' it will look crappy.

Cheers

I looked at the LED lights two years ago, and I really didn't like them much. Now granted, I do think that they look good given the proper setting, but as indoor Christmas tree lights in a darkened room at night (Which describes my tree's setting), I still prefer the brighter/warmer traditional ones.

The new LED lights are quite bright. And yes, they use a LOT less electricity. They do have a slightly different color to them, but they generally don't die either - so you shouldn't be replacing strings or trying to find the dead lights.

I have been using LED lights for a couple of years and they are much more durable and dependable as far as I have seen.

Should I take the ASAP class before my cour date?

I am wondering if it will do me any good to start the VASAP class before my court date. Also, should I take a driver improvement class?? Trying to curry some favor from the judge.

dont bother. if its a "regular" dui the judge will most likely stick with mandatory minimums.

I got charged with DUI at .08 and got caught with some weed that he found after he detained me. Didnt get my car towed supposedly because I parked it legally. I hired a lawyer he recommended me to do ASAP but I chose not to and ended up getting assigned to ASAP, amended the DUI to a Reckless and dropping the weed and illegal lane change. I feel like it wouldnt have helped my chances either way but who knows.

Are we assuming the charge was DUI? Was it?

If it was a reckless, then definately take the class. Maybe get some proof of getting substance abuse help. ASAP definately helped in my reckless charge. A lot.

I blew a .17 at the station. It was a DWI - but in Va DUI and DWI are one and the same. My lawyer said I shouldn't bother but I find it hard to believe it wouldn't curry some favor.

It really doesnt help if you take the class. Take the class so you can get a head start in putting the mess you are in behind you. But if you think because you take the class early it is going to reduce/lower your punsihment you are wrong. You will have to take ASAP anyways so like i said, take it to get it over with.

ASAP isn't like the driver improvement course. The ASAP course can take months and months. It's up to the ASAP people how long you stay in the course.

I had a buddy that (apparently) pissed his case manager off and she had him jumping through hoops for over a year. Antabuse, AA meetings, the works.

Plus ASAP is part of the sentence for DWI. I doubt any judge would appreciate you trying to dilute his/her authority.

I think the judge might think youre being proactive. It could only help.

LED belongs outside..

LED lights are supposed to last 20000 hours. They cost a fraction of trad lights. Different 'cooler' white though. In 20 years they will be the tradition but for now they look a little off.

btw they were only about 30 percent more to buy than trad lights.

Maybe "brighter" was the wrong word for me to use when comparing traditional lights to the LED ones. I really mean "Warmer". Something about the cold LEDs just doesn't quite look right in my house. I saw them an office recently, and they looked amazing in that setting though.

I saw some LED lights marked "Warm white", they're suppose to be much closer to incandescent than those marked "cool white".

I wish the LED manufacturers would just list lights temperature in Kelvins (~2700K is the closest to incandescent) like they do for CFL bulbs.

"Incandescent" is simply too technical. Besides, it's an evil word. The Greenies might start a war over it if they find out.....oh, wait....
